New build - i5 - need help

Go with the noctua nh d14 at £55 wont be disappointed and it plays very well with 2 x 140mm fans have 2 tehrmalright ty-140 on mine performs so much quieter and cooler than having 1x 120mm and 1 x 140mm.It's half the price of the corsair and almost as good if not better with the right fan combo.

Hi,

That'd be great but I don't want an air cooler, my Tuniq Tower 120 is great, don't get me wrong, it's not being forcefully pushed for a weekend of gaming, but it's bent of the board at once side almost. You can definitely see the flex.

I want a clearer case and this is a tech I've been wanting to try, so I will go for water. I can see how that design would easily work. I love the idea of the 2 fans. Definitely something I can see would work.

Can someone explain anything on the M2 front regarding getting 10Gb/s. Is it possible right now? What devices are even capable of this? I'm reading things about keys on them B/M ones and looking to see any experiences here.

You've basically got two types of M.2 - SATA and PCIe, SATA offer no speed increase over a SATA SSD that you'd typically plug into your mobo header, so 6Gb/s. PCIe M.2 support is sketchy at best, so is choice when it comes to buying them. Current gen PCIe M.2 can be had up to 10Gb/s, if your board M.2 slot supports it and the correct length, 2280 is what most of the best drives seem to be but some boards only support 40 or 60mm (2240/2260) length drives which is a bit daft IMO.

The very fastest you can get is if your mobo supports Gen 3 x4 PCIe M.2 at 32Gb/s, but there is virtually none of those drives for sale at the minute, I think Samsung have one but it's OEM only at the minute and not many boards support Gen 3 either.

TBH I'd only bother with M.2 if it was Gen 3 PCIe, otherwise you might as well just have another SATA SSD. I think it needs to mature a bit more before it's a realistic option.

Anyone know what would be the problem with a B85 chipset vs the Z87/Z97

The B6 Sniper revision is Haswell ready out of the box and is very overclockable

Well this build has changed. I've managed to secure a sale of my old pc which freed up funds a little.

I am going to get the BitFenix cables. Is there a solid PSU (energy efficient too) for around £50 / £60.

Will need to run around 550W as I'm not going SLI and have a GTX970 coming in.

According to Partpicker it's around 386W. So 550W will do fine.

So the EVGA Supernova 650W G1 Gold Modular Power Supply is the same as the 550?

I know about "overkill", however, I've found it for competitor price - makes sense

Corsair is not exactly going to blow up in your face, but the internals are not as good, but also (using the EVGA for example) different units can come from different OEMS.

The EVGA 750/850W G2 are Superflower and probably the same internals as the Superflower leadex range.

The Corsair CS550M is made by Great Wall and jonnyguru gave it a good score - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=366

I know mate, was looking at pairing up a corsair with the green braided cable pack, as the other option is BitFenix ones. So I'm currently speccing up a 550W 80+ Bronze Modular one with the bit fenix cables to see how much that comes too. Just don't want to miss a cable and have to order later as I don't get free P&P here

The Fury PSU are not good either and the worst ones mentioned in this thread, you are paying for the pre braided cabling.

Be careful with the corsair ones as they are intended to be direct replacements for the PSU cables and also only fit certain units (not all modular PSU use the same plugs on the main body of the PSU and also it varies by who made the PSU) . the Bitfenix cables fit all PSUs as they just go into the end of the existing cables coming out of the PSU and thats a set standard.
