Hey guys, im gonna build a new system in the next couple of months, just wanted a few tips/opinions/changes to my basket.

I want to stick with AMD as the Piledriver looks pretty damn sweet, i also don't particularly want to spend a whole lot more on expensive bits. I've got my monitors already and i will upgrade keyboard/mouse at some point just not yet...

Anyway, here it is so far...

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7970 OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs & 20% off MOH Warfighter PC Games £311.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x Xigmatek Centauro 1000W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply £114.98

You could get such a better PC for that money.

Any reason why you've gone for piledrive over the 3570k?

IS IT CUZ IT HAZ MORE COREZZ!!1? /mocking.

The 3570k is a lot better at gaming than the piledriver chips, though if you are into video editing the 8350 is a good chip.

That PSU is WAY over powered, even for a Xfire system, id suggest between 650W-750W. I would also suggest a Silverstone, Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, Antec, Coolermaster or OCZ PSU.

Not sure on the case either. the H50 (h55 now) isn't that great compared to air coolers you can get more £50.

RAM is overpriced too..

I suggest you seriously look at the 3570k.

Cheers for input, its just ive never been a fan of Intel. I also think that with the money going in it, an i5 just doesn't have the right ring to it.

I agree with the PSU, i have no idea who the manufacturer is to be honest and i thought i would just "future proof" it a bit more by going for the higher wattage. Not sure.

As for Ram, it seemed a good price for 2x8g especially as its 1866MHz.

And the case is rather sexual in my opinion, and im happy to change to air cooling, just thought a nice watercooled cpu would be nice.

Whatever the best recommendation is im willing to change to.

cheers man

Fair enough, i do suggest you take a look at benchmarks comparing the two though. You will notice a lot of people on here are on intel system (myself included) not because we particularly like them, just because the chips offer great performance in gaming and even more when overclocked.

Actually components are getting more eco friendly. CPU power draw and GPU power draw is falling, so if anything when you upgrade in 3 years you'll need less power.

Didn't notice they were 1866, Fair enough, good find. :)

I suggest if you are going for a watercooler either go for a h80(i) or a h100(i). The H50 isn't the best, simular in performance to a £40 air cooler but possibliy a bit noisier.

Later on, i can spec you up an intel system, so you can compare. Though im sure others will be along soon. :)

Yeah, thanks.

Its not that im completely apposed intel, its just that ive had AMD before and ive always liked it.

once again, I'd just always feel a bit sad if i got that 3570k because i know an i7 (even if it didnt change much) would make me feel happier inside. However, i do like the look of intel motherboards, so it may just be a matter of balancing my deep rooted, and potentially incorrect opinions on things.

cheers for your help though.

I'm with AMD so no bias opinion but I'm afraid apeksdiver is right IMO.....

Yeah, thats fair enough. Thanks for your help, both of you.

Just the i5... thats my only concern, even though it isn't i just feel like its "mid range" since i could get an i7 (but at a fair amount of money more.)

Then go intel, the 3570K is the obvious choice.

Agreed. How about a build along the following lines. Case is personal preference so left the one you selected in. Also better SSD and Gigabyte 7970 Windforce so UK based warranty and better cooler. Motherboard will do Crossfire so could add in another 7970 at a later date. The i5 is a very good processor, it won't have any problems with gaming and rendering videos for youtube will be fine too.

Its okay to give the guy advice but don't force him into getting an i5. If he wants to go AMD then its fine.

I'm an AMD owner, I wanted a cheap budget machine so got an A10 5800K.

It is a good overclocker, whats not to like.

Dont you just feel that Intel make new releases reasonably quickly. I just feel that after a good while, the i5 would not compete very will with the new releases, maybe the higher end i7s might stand a chance but, and this is my own potentially incorrect opinion, i just think the i5s will be blown over.

I just feel with more cores and a higher potential speed the piledriver will be more "future proof" since i don't intend to build for another while. but then again i could be wrong..
