With all the Xbox exclusives coming to pc and crossplay on cod so I could still play with friends I'm looking at building a pc instead of going next gen console. I'm starting to learn Kotlin too so that would be nicer on a desktop rather than a laptop.

I'll need everything, except keyboard and mouse. With a budget of £1000 to £1500. I'd like a 1440 monitor but could make do with a spare-ish 1080 I have for a while. I'm guessing gaming at 4k with my TV is out of budget.

Big one is it will have to be fairly quiet. Not silent, but I get home from work as everyone else is going to bed.

Now is not really the best time to buy with shortages inflating prices and a new gen of GPUs due in a few months, so if you can hold off for a bit I would.

You could game at 4k/60hz on that budget but may have to drop settings in more demanding games. Imo 1440/144hz is the way to go though, people underestimate the difference high refresh rate makes.

I can wait a little, I still have my X Box and it will take a month or two before I can afford it.

I would go for something like this - hopefully the Ryzen 3600XT will be out by the time you come to buy so I would probably swap out the 3600 for that.

This gives you a very powerful system, save the upper end of your budget for potential upgrades later down the line - you'll be able to run 4000 series ryzen on this motherboard too.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

no reason other than it was the cheapest MSI MAX board. MSI have confirmed their b450s will definitely get a BIOS update to enable 4000 series support, and the non max versions may have to sacrifice the BIOS GUI for a text based BIOS.

Tomahawk max is not much more if you wanted an ATX board

This build is almost exactly what im thinking of getting. Seems sensible to wait for the 3600xt, likely not much difference in price and should be a decent boost. Not too long to wait either.
