ASUS p5k premiumwi/fi or Asus p5k,1 is £125 and the other £78.I dont know which one to go for.

Intel core2 duo E6850 lga775 conroe

Corsair 2gb dominator pc28500c5 twin

Not looked into buying since my present amd4400dual build nearly 2 years ago so would really appreciate any input if these are decent matches etc?
thankyou very much

are you going to overclock?
if so get a e2180 with a p35 chipset based board if you want dual core
or
get a q6600 with a p35 chipset based board if you want quad core

you only need pc2 6400 ram by the way.

my spec if i was to buy

for quad

Both of those cpu's clock great if you do intend to clock them at all. Other thing is you might want a graphics card included with those specs if you don't already have one, as they do make a big difference even if you don't game.

Corsair 2gb dominator pc28500c5 twin

And there's no point in getting RAM as fast as that when it's doubtful that you'll be even running them at that speed. The other corsair stuff (XMS2) at 800Mhz runs pretty well anyway, and I doubt you'll notice the difference between the 1066Mhz stuff and the 800Mhz stuff. THe memory that jak specced would be fine.

i only put in MB, CPU (and cooler) and RAM as those where the parts he was asking about. for all i know he could already have a good graphics card or he is moving some parts from his current pc over to this new build thus makign soem parts not nessary

hey thanks thats very detailed, brilliant in fact.

I have just replced my 1900xtx with bfg oc 8800gt.

I havent got the foggiest idea about overclocking.will the spec you did for me still suffice because of that?

Did you spec the mobo for overclocking ability or because its better than the asus I put down.

Gratefull for the ram imformation,no point in paying for something i dont use.

and if I dont o/c the chip would i not be better with the faster one.whats the benifit of quadcore over dual?

thanks again

overclocking is easy and nearly everyone in the forum will be able to tell you how to do it. the simplist way is to first turn off speedstep and then slowly increase the FSB and running stress tests to see if it is stable (someone should give a more detailed approach later hopefully). if you do want to overclock both the q6600 or e2180 usually reach about 3ghz (unless you get a very very bad cpu)mokign them effectively the only cpus worth getting. i picked the abit board as i regularly see good overclocks on the forum with that board. however i am not sure on the two asus boards overclocking ability.

if you overclock then they are the only ones worth getting as they are the easiest to overclock, the e2180 is easier then the e2140 or e2160 due to its 10x mulitplier (a lower FSB is needed for 3ghz) wwhile a q6600 is better then the higher end quads due to the price jump between a q6600 and q6700.

you could try overclocking your 4400x2 cpu first to see what you can get out of it also what you do with your pc will decide if a upgrade is needed. ie if all you do is web browsing then no, if you play new games at very high res then it will decide on the type of games you play.

since i am not used to ocing amd cpus i can only suggest you post a help me type thread in the overclocking and cooling forum. games by the way are currently almost always GPU limited for the moment so a faster cpu might not be much of an improvement maybe apart from faster loading times. is your cpu skt 939 or am2?

unless you cant overclock your cpu due to a bad mobo, bad cpu, bad ram or/and your too scared, the only point in upgrading will be to futureproof your pc a bit more or to allow you to use a part that would not work undre your current set up. if you are intent on buying i would save up even more and wait for the new cpus and chipsets to be released.
