I am absolutely delighted with it.

I sorted out the problem installing Vista,
Make note that you need a SATA DVD to boot up your OS disk. IDE doesn't work.

As soon as I installed the SATA drive it worked flawlessly,

Setting up all my drivers and essential apps now.

When everything is setup I'll post some pictures.

Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice on this build.

You have all done me proud.

When I get everything installed and get the desk setup I'll definitely post some pics,
Bit of a junkyard here at the moment, lol, got bits everywhere.

Need to rearrange the room too and get shot of my old pc,

I've just run the windows experience base score app and I'm getting 5.9 across the board,

Here is my build

Asus Maximus II Formula P45 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz EO stepping
Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler With 2 fans fitted
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB
Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Thermaltake ToughPower 850W Modular Power Supply
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Full Tower Case

Nice system, glad that the build and install went well, look forward to a few piccies and ofcourse the overclocking:)

Thanks setter, I'm very pleased with it.
Had a problem with the ide dvd as i said, that worried me for a while i must admit,:(
Thank god it was as easy to fix as buying a new drive,

overclocking, I definitely want to learn about that, I'll be reading the forums quite a bit after xmas.

When i get some time ill do some benchmarks and see how it runs as standard,
then ill be able to see exactly what effects my attempts at overclocking deliver.

Unusual thread award of the year Award goes to You

Try unplugging a few bits & bobs & when it is unstable post back so we can help fix it :D

So why doesn't it work with a IDE Drive, I'm upgrading i7 and going to go to Vista home premium 64 bit, are you telling me it dont work with IDE drives? Do you think this might be a problem with just the Specific M/board your using?

Main reason I posted was to let people know that i fxed the ide problem, well went around it at least, but I see your point, :p

I think ill delete a few windows files at random, that might keep you busy:D

You'd have a job finding a new IDE drive these days anyway, unless you're just moving the drive from an old machine.

I think it's probably a design flaw with this specific mobo, Asus told someone on another forum that they assume everyone is using SATA now and thats why it wont boot, but I smell a rat. I think thats just smoke and mirrors.
I cant see a manufacturer taking away an already established feature that many people still use

yeah the whole IDE not beeing able to be booted from confuses the hell outta me.!

but in any case its all working now, which im glad to hear.!:p

cant wait to see some pics :)

I might put a thread in the mobo section alerting people to this issue,

Pics coming asap.

Installed XP and Vista many times from my IDE Samsung DVD burner, from several different motherboards, so I don't know why you're having problems.

Didn't work on my first mobo, an Abit AB-9, but that was because the 965 chipset had just launched and the third-party IDE controllers were rubbish.

I totally agree, Ive never had this problem before, but it isnt unique, searching I haver found several people with the same issue on the maximus,

Like I said earlier, I think it has to be a design flaw with this specific board, cant explain why ide is there but not working for boot, I havent tested it in vista but I bet ide will work fine once an OS is installed.

All that really matters to me is that vista is installed and working now, well worth £20 for a sata drive.

Hello eveyone.
I am new around here and this ismy first post, so lease be nice... lol...

Anyways regarding the issue on the IDE controlers, I must say that I have neer seen this problem with IDE but yes with SATA on the old ays when SATA was first realleased when you'd have to get the SATA drivers in floppy and use F6 on XP instalation to get tse drivers from the floppy. I should now as I still have one motherboard running on this system of mine and in BIOS there are no SATA HDD and I have two up and running on my XP.

Nice PC by the way, bad about the courtines thoug lol,

and there seem to be quite a few mobos out in the last few years that require a sata DVD drive to install the OS, it's a bit odd, but whatever floats their boat...

I've installed Vista with IDE DVD drive, you may not have at the PATA controller enabled in the BIOS a d the IDE drive wasn't functioning? My mobo come standard with the PATA controller off, and nothing would run from a IDE drive... but that was only temp til my replacement SATA drive arrived.
