I have the exact same motherboard and it installed fine off an ide drive so could have just been your first drive having problems with dvds with large amounts of data files on it :)

Too bloody right, and I'm going to pee on the ashes as well, lol
no accounting for taste eh. all i know is most peoples are better. :D

Hope you get your ideal setup soon, fingers crossed for your lottery win:p

Hello eveyone.
I am new around here and this ismy first post, so lease be nice... lol...

Anyways regarding the issue on the IDE controlers, I must say that I have neer seen this problem with IDE but yes with SATA on the old ays when SATA was first realleased when you'd have to get the SATA drivers in floppy and use F6 on XP instalation to get tse drivers from the floppy. I should now as I still have one motherboard running on this system of mine and in BIOS there are no SATA HDD and I have two up and running on my XP.

Nice PC by the way, bad about the courtines thoug lol,

I know what you mean, I had to get sata drivers off of the net for my old pc as the ones with the mobo didnt work, luckily I had my even older comp still running so downloaded them straight away, would have p'd me off if i had to go to a mates to get them, XP is a bloody good OS in 32 bit, not sure about 64 , heard some horror stories, but it did have massive teething problems, dont they always.

Running Vista 64 now and its working fine so far, hope all the bugs are fixed by now, fingers crossed as always with microsoft, lol

I've installed Vista with IDE DVD drive, you may not have at the PATA controller enabled in the BIOS a d the IDE drive wasn't functioning? My mobo come standard with the PATA controller off, and nothing would run from a IDE drive... but that was only temp til my replacement SATA drive arrived.

The ide drive is working, gave it to a mate and its fine on his comp, but you might be right about the bios ill check, most important is its working,

Hope you get it fixed soon mate, I would be gutted if mine went down, let me know when its fixed.

claimed!

and there seem to be quite a few mobos out in the last few years that require a sata DVD drive to install the OS, it's a bit odd, but whatever floats their boat...

Almost like some suit makes a decision and thats the end of it, just hassle and a few quid sorts it out though

Good job. Enjoy the PC...for a while...then clock the nuts off it! ;)

Nice setup as is! When its's OC'd it s going to be an absolute BEAST!!

That's a really nice setup you've got going there.

Very clean look to the desk.

Thanks for you're comments, much appreciated. I promise to take pics of the curtains burning, lol

P.S. I'm going to read up about overclocking in the new year, not trying now I plan on going out and getting very wobbly. Happy new year to everyone especially those who has supported me on this build

Any pics of the actual build? Would like to see it all inside, looking lovely and (hopefully) tidy :)

Thanks Switch,
I didnt take pics building it, I got so into doing it I totally forgot, Ill take a few of the inside and post them

I got all but one cable managed pretty good, but the power lead that feeds cpu (i think thats what it does) is too short and has to run up the middle of the case. only one out of place, ill get an extension soon so I can route it into the cable cavityand out by the top of the mobo.

P.S. batteries dead, charging now, will post pics tomorrow

Sorry, I didn't mean the ide drive was borked, I mean't it prob wasn't functioning cos the PATA controller was disabled. Have a butchers and see.

Don't be sorry, it was one of my thoughts and one of the first things I checked. it's good to see people are covering every angle with ideas, however obvious, it's easy to ignore something like that when stumped by a big problem,
Ill have to check the bios, cant be arsed at the moment, :)

LOL yeah, when I went to my local crappy pc parts dealer he offered me an ide first,"erm, no, but if you have a sata with a brand name I might take that" maybe ide drives are as hard to offload as a stolen Lada with a body in the boot, :D

"track down took me all of 5 seconds", yeah, I have heard that there are thousands in landfill sites in China:D
Maybe thats where my man gets his from, few squirts of WD40 and some elbow grease , "don't worry it will work fine, only three pound fifty, How many do you need?", "erm excuse me but should it be leaking?":p
