Whats happening at the minute is when I connect the power cable and switch the Power supply switch on the back of the PSU on, the computer starts up on its own - without pressing the power button on the case.

It will stay powered on for 3-4 seconds, then turn itself off.

I have disconnected everything but the motherboard and heatsink/CPU so far.

New build. Nothing displaying onscreen. Has been doing it since I put it together.

Your help is appreceiated.

I had a PC that would boot up when I flipped the back of the PSU on, never ever got it fixed, since it was never really off and on lol.

However if you are not getting any screen, ensure you have connected the 2 power connections from the PSU to the GPU, I think its a x2 6 pin with a +2.

If that is done, when you boot up the PC, does it beep?

what happens if you take out the i/o connections for the power button? the power button could be faulty and always on so what it thinks your doing is holding in the power button to turn it off, and cause the buttons in it turns on?

First thing to do is check all connectors are properly seated and in the correct ports.
Also check the power on button on the case is properly connected, no loose wires.
When you say no screen display, is this with the Gpu connected, if so the mobo may required a bios update. Check with the onboard graphics first, if you get a display, then mostly likely you will need to update the bios, as already mentioned.

This sounds promising because when I take out the Power and reset switches connected to the Mobo, and then turn the PSU switch on - nothing happens at all. Which made me think it had something to do with the power button. How could I test that? By the way, which side is positive on the switches? Is it the one with the little triangle?

I have reseated everything, and as mentioned tried it with everything disconnected apart from the 24 pin and 8 pin CPU

I get no display with GPU or Onboard GPU. Still the same 3-4 seconds.

I get no beeps currently, as I need to grab a speaker after work today to test it, but I am not hopeful as the PC only turns on for 3-4 seconds.

it shud be marked on the mobo if you look at the i/o straight on, it might be hard to see so your motherboard manual will also have a diagram of the i/o connectors and then you can put the switch in the right way, if you just wanted to test you could get a screw driver, turn the power on for the computer and touch the 2 power switch pins together, this will hopefully turn the pc on

Would disconnecting the power switch and using the reset instead as the power button work?

So do you recommend using the reset switch as the power switch?

The problem I have is that I know which is positive and negative on the MOBO, but not on the actual switch itself.

I will try that when I get home then, and use the reset switch and connect it to the power switch terminal.

If this doesn't fix it, is there anything else I could try?

Thanks!

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for that suggestion as it actually worked and I got the PC powering on with the reset button.

Turns out the case has a faulty power button/switch!
