New build Issues

Hi all,

Putting a new PC together for my son:

Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming
Ryzen 1600
Teamgroup Vulcan 3000mhz

Problem we are having is that power goes to the board and everything spins up but no signal to monitor. I've read about a similar issue (different ram) and it was down to memory which when swapped solved the problem. The above ram is not on the supported list for the motherboard. Could it be the ram? Cheers!

Have you made sure to only stick one stick in at first?

If not, try one stick and then flash BIOS to latest release via Q-flash and USB stick.

You need to get into the BIOS for QFLASH right? Not even getting that far.
Yes - you need at least one stick of memory installed.

What's attached to the MoBo?

Ideally just the:
  • CPU
  • 1 stick
  • gfx
  • keyboard
Also double check that you have the 24 pin, 8 pin and CPU fan header connected.

Just those and all connected fine aye. I'm just about to reset the BIOS and see what happens. He's leaving tomorrow so I guess if no luck I'll order some supported RAM for a morning delivery and see if it helps.

Yes, clear the CMOS - and ideally set up outside of the case.

If still no luck i would consider re-seating the CPU and/or testing another PSU.

Additional: That memory has been used in that particular brand/board in lots of builds so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue.

No joy. Reading a lot of issues with this board on the Gigabyte forums. Wish I'd have researched a bit more before (although I am sure there are many with no issues)!

You may have been unlucky - although i've only had experience with the 'Gaming 3' variant, which have had no 'trending' issues in the sub forums.

So, where are you so far in the troubleshooting phase - what have you tried and what state is your MB at the moment?

Everything is out of the case and set up. I'm leaving the CMOS battery out for a bit but other than that I may have to order either a new board or RAM for tomorrow. Maybe the gaming 3 if my current RAM is ok with it.

The Team Group Vulcan set is built into OcUK pre-builds so compatibility shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't mean that you haven't got 2 dead sticks however - very rare but not impossible.

So no sign if life at all?

Are you using a known working PSU or is that new too?

Can't stress enough to triple check your connections to MoBo and the gfx card (you do have a gfx card installed? - i ask as i've been in a thread where they wrongly assumed that the MB/CPU had onboard GFX)

The motherboard gets power (lights up) and the CPU and graphics card fans spin up. Just nothing to the monitor.

Using a new 1060 as a GPU. The only things I haven't tried is another GPU (will try mine) or PSU (PSU is a new Super Flower).

I've reseated the CPU and connections a number of times.

Does the Monitor have a button that you can press to switch between the different video outputs i.e HDMI, VGA etc ? It could be something as simple as that.

Are you using DP output - if so try HDMI as DP can have issues.

EDIT: And lee makes a valid point - easy to overlook (just mentioned something similar in a different thread).

Aye tried switching monitor inputs also HDMI, DP and DVI-D on a couple of monitors. Just arranging an RMA as pretty stuck now. OCUK tech mentioned the MB may have the F2 bios instead of the F4 for the 1600?

That is another possibility as the initial release were the R7 cpu's. Even though it is the same platform the R5 1600 cpu could have issues without the updated microcode on F4 bios.

Are overclockers willing to flash the latest bios for you ? I would ask them that before sending it back.

Yes, not compatible with the 1600 - no way for you to update.

The Gaming 3s that have been shipped recently have worked with the 1600 - but no guarantees that they get rid of stock in order or that they get older boards delivered....

Thanks for all the help guys. OC are going to flash for me if that's the issue when they get it back. Looking on the Giga website, seems F4 or above for the 1600. I'm wondering if it is worth going for the Gaming 3 anyway seeing as it is going back.

Additional: you may also want to get them to check the memory at the same time as it wouldn't cost any more for them to receive and post back (but very unlikely both sticks DOA but not impossible) - and if the motherboard proved to be OK that would be then next thing to go back if PSU has been cleared. Benefits of ordering from one place.
