It's for a friend, what I've specced comes to a grand :(
Anything goes, only need pc, no monitor, keyboard or mouse necessary.

.Not too big
.Quiet
.Gaming max settings at 1280x1024

What could you say?

Thanks :D

1280x1024? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I'd get a new monitor in that budget easily... just give me a min : ).

----------
Edit:
i7 and 5850 for 1280x1024 ? ARE YOU NUTS?

step the i7 down to an i5 / am3 phenom and it will be more than capable; the i7 seems a tad overkill ;)

+1 on Phoenix.

All that awesome equipement would be sure a waste on 1280x1024.
Get a Corsair 650w PSU
4 Gig RAM

Ill spec you up a pc after dinner ;)

Edit just realised budget is £900, was budgeting for £1,000

This has a monitor included. Just change the 5850 for a 5770 and you'll be in budget

thanks guys.

I picked out the 5850 because he isn't the kind of person who will be able or is willing to upgrade in a few years, so I thought that at least it would give him some future proofing. and I chose i7 because it's not just his gaming that he wants speed for.

w1llyg: how fast and overclockable is the phenom?

it can be oc to about 3.8

Not as good oc as the i5 or i7.

I suggested the 5770 cause tht allows a new monitor.
and then later on get another 5770 in xfire.

lol, well he needs a better monitor to play crysis in max lol
If he can find an extra £130 pounds and gets 2 5770 it'll do a good job.
2x 5770 is better than 1 x 5850
