Hello,

I have just installed all my drivers etc should I now run a stress test on the cpu? and the GPU?

If yes what ones do you think I should run?

Thanks

Just get on install your apps and games and enjoy your PC.

You'll sharp find out if something is not right unstable, you don't have to run P95 OVER NIGHT.

My x79 build l just ran P95 for 30 minutes just to see how my temps were.

Just use it normally, i find these stress tests mostly pointless. You can run them for 24 hours easy then load a game for the pc to crash. Just play a few demanding games.

All prime shows is your computer can run prime, pointless exercise if your main intention for the computer was games. Using it for a base for max temps, sure. Anything else? A waste.

I run RealTemp with Prime95 (it has a fixed length of about 5 minutes) just to make sure CPU cooling is working.

I run whatever the latest GPU benchmark is for checking GPU cooling - unigine / 3dmark.

Need to be a bit more thorough for a high overclock, but for normal folk this works ok.

If you're running at stock settings there's no reason to stress test. The components are almost certainly quality controlled before leaving the factory.

Don't stress test

Simply play the games and do what you need to do on your PC

No crashes = system is stable, your fine.

Stress testing is pointless

If that happens then your issue is most likely power/GPU related or you've ran something like blend mode which tests memory more.

There's no substitute for thorough testing and by that I mean use a variety of tests not just the flavour of the day, a stable CPU should be able to run ANY software without tripping up (software bugs aside!).

Prime95 is generally a very good test of stability, it always has been.

If you really want to - run prime 95 for just half an hour, just to check temps and general stability. Really though you just need to use your pc as normal, games whatever, and you will soon find out if it is ok or not, all this stress testing is not necessary - you run prime overnight and what does it prove - only that you can run prime.
