After first install, the machine worked fine, apart from one thing. When installing the nvidia chipset for the mobo, I Naievely accepted, and installed, the Forceware Network Access Management 'utility'. As many of you are no doubt aware - but I wasn't - this interferes with several applications and is virtually impossible to get rid of. After much Googling, and some helpful advice from the Forum here, I opted to reformat, and do a clean install of XP Home.
With this done, I also added another 2x 1GB sticks of memory (exactly same as the first two). In retrospect, I now realise that this was a stupid thing to do until I determined if the system was going to be stable with the original hardware.
All seemed to be OK until (maybe by coincedence) I was updating Windows. From that time on, I am getting occasional 'Blue Screen' Flashes, and re-boots.
Since then, I have 'restored' to various stages, but with the same results. Windows Security Center has decided not to recognise my NOD32 AV software in the last couple of hours, having been quite happy with it to begin with. Not sure if this is relevant, but I notice the Event Viewer is logging 'Security Center' and 'WinMgt' every 7 or 8 minutes. Most recently I installed AVG anti-spyware, and it can't manage a full scan without the thing crashing.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
