I just built a new computer with some parts I bought and an old graphics card.
Unfortunately, when turned on, nothing is displayed on the screen. There is a slight change in brightness on the screen, however.
Aside from the graphics card, which was bought a few years ago, all of the parts are new and compatible.
I have tried swapping RAM, the graphics card, reseating all of the components, and resetting the CMOS. Well, I think I've reset the CMOS, but there's no way to tell as the motherboard has no jumpers.
Still, not even the POST is displayed.
Is my motherboard dead already?

So the PC turns on fans spin up but nothing on the screen?

have you got a specker attached to the mobo, if so can you hear it beep? most BIOS will beep if it don't like the GPU or it don't work for some reason. Also most mobos do a successful beep when its completed all its checks.

saying that what board is it? and the spec of the system including power supply

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 770 motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 240
Corsair 2GB RAM
WD5000AAKS HDD
Artic Power 700W PSU
Nvidia 7600GT GPU

All of the fans sound normal. I'll try attaching a speaker.
There doesn't seem to be any beep on startup.

reset the CPU, I know it a silly one but hay, I would actually try the components in another PC if possible, ethoir that or test the mobo, if it beeps its most likely alive if it just sits there its dead.... just take the mem out or something

also, is all the connectors connected 24pin (20pin) and 8/4pin connectors? easy enough mistake

Id also suggest trying the memory in different slots, when building my i7 rig i had the ram inserted wrong, this led to no display on the monitor.

yeah I thought as much..... thats why I didn't mention RAM.....

I would RMA the board worst thing that can happen, is that it works for OCuk or who ever you got it from

oh yeah before you do, leave something out of it like teh memory, just leave the sticks out with the speaker in if beep than its sort off alive if it sit doing nothing than you will get a new mobo out of it :D if you really wanna make sure its a DOA

and thats what we are here for :D

Now, after having replaced almost every single part of this computer, it is still not working.
I currently have:
Asus M4A77TD PRO motherboard
Kingston 2GB DDR3 RAM listed as being compatible with the motherboard in the manual
AMD Phenom II X2 545
Arctic 700 PSU
Nvidia 7600

Note: I have swapped the power supply and gpu with ones that I know are working, and there is no difference.

The problem is the same as before. Nothing displays on the screen. The drives spin up, fans spin, etc, but nothing displays. I have tried three different screens, different cables, but still I have the same problem. I get no display at all. At this point, I don't think any parts can be dead, as all of them are new, and have been replaced over and over and it still does not work.

I have tried reseating the cpu, reseating the motherboard to make sure it's not shorting out, reconnected all components, and still I have this problem.

Can anyone help? I'm almost ready to just set this lump of wasted money on fire.

Its the ram, i had the same issue, i tried booting and it was either the RAM or the mobo then i bought new mobo and ram, then later on i tried selling the old ram and i found out they didnt work, and i threw the mobo away FOR NO REASON OMFG

I have gone through 2 types of RAM, both supported by the motherboard. This motherboard is new, as I thought that the last time it didn't work the motherboard was DOA. I have tried the RAM is all DIMM slots.

Just a thought, is your speaker plugged in the right way round? On my board there is a + and - side to the pins, get it the wrong way and it wont work.

And have you tried both DVI plugs on the graphics card? Mine didnt work from one but did on the other.

Remove the battery from the board for 10 mins?

Just a noobs possibly silly ideas

Can you check if the processor is working? I notice you first mentioned you had an Athlon II X2 240 and now a Athlon II X2 245?

I bought the new one after deducing that the old one must be broken, as everything else was confirmed to be working. I have no other motherboards to check this, but I presume it is working.
