Ive just finished my first build. When I go to switch it on, nothing at all happens. No lights, fans, sounds of burning, nothing. What are the most likely things that I have done wrong?

Incidentally, this building lark is HARD! :o

Its an E4500, P3C-DS3R, Thermaltake Soprano, X1950PRO, Ballistix 5300 RAM and a Corsair HX520W.

PSU, connections

Right , obvious things first. Has the PSU got a switch? Is it on ?
Does the PSU have a voltage switch (110/220v). is it set for uk voltage (220v) ?
next unplug everything, and start 1 by 1.

1 - 20/24 pin connector to motherboard. seated well and clipped?
2 - 4 pin ATX connector to 4 pin plug on motherboard (4 pin square) seated and clicked?
3 - does the Motherboard have an LED? Is it on?
4 - CPU fan connector connected?
5 - is the Power switch connected to the motherboard, and is it the correct way (+ to +pin and - to - pin) this might seem obvious but I did have a PSU last week that refused to power up a MSI P35 Neo when I inadvertently put them the wrong way round.
6 - check the BIOS default jumper - find it in your manual - also known as the BIOS reset jumper. Make sure it's on the normal operation setting.
7 - does the GFX card require additional power (6 pin plug into GFX card directly) - seated and clicked?

If the above is all fine, it should power on.

Everything you mentioned is well connected, Ive double checked everything, tried the power switch cable both ways round (doesnt say in the case manual which way is +), and everything should be sorted. Still got nothing happening though, and there is no LED to check on the mobo.

other equipment?

Do you have an older PC that you could plug the PSU into to see if is ok ?

Also try a different power lead, or try that power lead in another appliance. Sounds nuts but I have had brand new broken power leads before.

Yep, its clicked into the motherboard and hard wired into the PSU.

And no, Ive only got an older Dell, which I cant swap the PSU in. I'll try a different power lead later, got to go play some tennis now!

have you wired up the front switch on the pc properly ??? that can sometimes be tricky to do due to lack of lableing.
