What would the general concensus to this be??

At the moment i have a half decent machine, but the gfx card is giving me a few problems. Would i be better just to change gfx card and wait until Nehalem or build a new rig just now and redo when Nehalem comes out??

Current spec:-

E6600 duo @ 3.0Ghz
Gigabyte DS4
2gb G-Skill 6400Hz DDR2
ATI X1900 (will be changed to a 4870 no matter what)
XP

If upgrading now i would more than likely get:-

Q6600 quad
Asus PQ5 Pro
Corsair 4Gb 6400Hz DDR2
4870
Vista

Cheers,

Mostly gaming it's used for. Been thinking for a while whether it was worth it. The setup seems ok at the moment, just the X1900 is throwing artifacts up when it gets hot and that's with an aftermarket cooler, reporting good temps and the fan at 100% :(

I think new 4870 it is then :D Trouble is the price keeps going down and down so there's never a good time to buy one :D

Vista Home Premium the one to go for?? Not needing it for anything too fancy.

Now on the memory front. Do i buy another 2 GB of G-Skill and use the 4 sticks or would i be better buying 2 x 2Gb sticks??

Cheers for the comments

If you are planning on upgrading shortly then make sure you get a retail version of Vista so that you can legally slap it on the new rig.

The retail version is double the price though :(

So let me get this right, if i buy the OEM version i can't change my hardware??

What's the deal with the upgrade version? Is it the full thing or just a bit slapped onto XP??
