Hello. I have done a lot of research but this is my first build , I’m going to build it myself . It’s a gaming build , primarily civ and total war type games. Any advice on whether the build is appropriate and/or compatibility issues would be appreciated. Have used pc part picker , which is good but its not human. Thanks !

AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
Asus - PRIME B450-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Samsung - 860 Evo 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Seagate - BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB GT OCV1 Video Card
Corsair - Carbide Series 275R (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Cooler Master - MasterWatt 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

What's your max budget ? And do you need a screen ?

Looks very similar to my proposed build. Also my thread (Warren Davies) Also is close to yours in forum. My budget is £900 also, see what you think of my selections. I’m also waiting for advice on compatibility etc.

One thing I would say is that having just bought the mobo and cpu separately, I saw the same kit being offered as a bundle which would have saved me £30... Might be worth bearing in mind

i know it's overbudget, but an extra £100 will bring tangible benefits in comparison to your proposed £900 build.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,003.44 (includes shipping: £12.60)

in comparison to your build,
1) 8 core (albeit 1st gen) ryzen compared to your (2nd gen) 6 core ryzen - with that, a solid mid-high end x370 board, rather than a lower end b450 board
2) larger capacity sata3 ssd. the difference between nvme and sata3 ssd is not perceptible outside of benchmarks unless in specific circumstances (eg: same-drive copying or video editing...ie tasks that will hammer the storage subsystem - with that in mind, storage > speed with ssds at any price point, better to go with a large capacity sata3 ssd, rather than a lower capacity nvme ssd, unless price is not a concern)
3) waaaaaayyy better graphics card (in the order of ~40%)
4) better ventilated case
5) better psu

^^^ tamzzy nailed it

intel version- only if you play all the old Total war games, indie games and older RTS that use Single/dual core performance only and were clock speed is key .

Most incoming RTS use multi threads better, actually RTS lead the way most of the time !

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,039.54 (includes shipping: £11.70)

ryzen is the more logical choice

tamzy and orbitalwalsh . you comments about cores and clock speeds are helful and appreciated . as with all replies like this , Ill have to go away and reconfigure , price is a concern and both your suggestions come a little above my budget...might wait and convince myself I can stretch to it ..thanks again

if you can't stretch to £1000, then this is what i'd get for £900.
MATX form factor for compactness.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £908.49 (includes shipping: £11.70)

similar to your original spec, except:
1) better motherboard
2) ssd, changed (as reasons given above)
3) slower ram (performance loss is ~1-2% approx, might be slightly more, say ~2-3% in some specific circumstances)
4) better GPU (as previous spec)
5) better PSU (the one listed in my previous spec is no longer on offer)
6) cheaper case, but well ventilated, and with extra aftermarket fans to keep the internals cool

If a significant step up in performance is only a little over budget, it’s always worth it.

You can play the ‘just a little bit more’ game until your budget has spiralled out of control, in this case I’d agree that an extra £100 brings quite a boost.

Worth considering at least.

worth considering it is , Im going for the Asus ROG STRIX RX VEGA 56 8GB OC HBM2 Graphics Card with some reductions in price on other components . should come in at only (only?) £100 more . Did a little research , GPU worth the extra it seems. Thanks again ....

I would get the Vega 56, but I wouldn't get the Asus model. It's easily the worst of the lot.

so I've gone with this , no changing now ..
CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus - PRIME B450-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus - Radeon RX VEGA 56 8 GB ROG STRIX Video Card
Case: Corsair - Carbide Series 275R (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic - FOCUS Plus Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit

one more question tho , should I buy sata cables or any other peripherals that wont come with the case / mobo that I'll need ?
suppose you can tell I haven't got a clue from the question , oh well ..

Edited out the competitors.
