firslty your sig is to big 4 lines max

what is the pc to be used for do you want to overclock it

whats your full budget?

do you need 2 moniters?

Corrected, thanks. Don't want two monitors :)

I've never dabbled with o/c'ing but don't see why not. The PC is for gaming primarily and whilst I have no budget limit, I don't want to waste money!

I'd change the DVDRW drives to SATA models probably.
I'd change the OS to a 64bit version since you appear to want 4gb Ram which will not be fully utilised on a 32bit OS.
PSU is good.
Case is personal preference provided you have checked that the graphics card fits.
I'd probably change the motherboard for a Gigabyte DS3P, cheaper and hits higher FSB speeds.
You don't really need the Secure-connect cables plus I don't know if they work with anything other than WD drives.
Graphics card is good.
CPU might be better as the Q6600, cheaper and you can overclock to at least the same as the QX6700.
Cooler is decent but I'd pick a Noctua NH-U12F or Tuniq Tower instead as they are better. :)

i kept the same case as you wanted but changed a few things

faster than your build

memory is better, hdd,s are faster, mobo is better for a quad and has full sli support for the future, cooler is better, and cpu is faster

paul_64l fair enough to most of your specification since a lot of it comes down to personal preference but why the QX6800? It is incredibly expensive for what is a fairly minor speed bump.

I'm inclined to agree, i.e. nice spec, but I'd switch the cpu for an X3220, the £420 price saving would allow an extra couple of hard-drives and a 4-port RAID controller and still save over £200. that's just my opinion though. :)

If it were me, I'd be inclined to hold off until the end of July and see what happens to prices

:D

tbh if it was me id go e6600 for cheaper till july tbh

2k2.jpg

get this then sell the e6600 and change it in july

sli gtx for the win

and 1 terrabyte of rai0+1

more money can be saved tho buy using 1 gtx and 2 hdd's ect all down to personal preferance as nothing pushes 1 gtx tbh

So you think dropping the cash on the extra gfx board is better than the quad cpu eh?

Interesting.

From what your saying though, there's an expexted Intel price drop just around the corner anyway.

I'm selling the house atm and will probably wait until we get into the new house before starting this little project.

I wouldn't bother with SLi for a 22" monitor, it is extra expense and hassle which is simply not needed for the size of the screen. If it was a 24" or larger screen then it does have a point but at this level I don't think it does. :)

i don't understand why paul_64l has gone for slower ram. I would stick with the geil, especially as it is so cheap right now!

Simple answer, the Crucial Ballistix PC5300 C3 uses the same chips as the PC8500 version so it overclocks brilliantly. I'd generally prefer 2x2gb myself as it allows more space for expansion but it isn't really vital. :)

Ok, so here's another one. Is there any benefit in going Vista 64 apart from being able to support 4gigs of ram?

Does it limit what can be run on it to just 64 bit applications or versions of games? Sorry if this sounds like a retarded question. We've all got to start somewhere! ;)

This system is under buget and will be plenty of power for you: If your getting VISTA 64bit is the best option for you.

I think you shouldn't be posting links to competitors, the system isn't terrible but for the budget I'm sure you can do better and you are getting stiffed on the delivery. £40 - yeah right. In fact I've just specified almost exactly the same on OcUK but with almost certainly a better case, double the Ram, a better cooler and PSU for about £80 less. :)

Ahh, sorry for stepping on toes. I keep forgetting this is a forum for the store and not just a tech forum :( my bad!

But the spec highlighted by you certainly measures up. I need to read the info on putting these things together.

Don't worry about it too much but do remove the link otherwise a moderator will probably remove it for you. The specification can stay but the link can't. :)

Putting a PC together is pretty simple, even if it is your first time, there are plenty of guides available. Corsair had a good one if memory serves.

//edit here is one with pictures. :)
