new build powering up but nothing on screen

ok just built a new rig for my friend, it powers up fine but nothing comes up on screen, all the fans are spinning etc.

specs are:
c2d e2180
Abit IP35-E
2gb geil ull
x1950 pro
corsair 450W
akasa zen

any ideas what it could be? tried resetting bios, memory in different slots/used 1 stick etc. but no luck so far.

might try build it outside of the case, but will wait see if yous can suggest anything else before i do that.

maybe dodgy monitor cable, monitor or gfx card.

is the monitor plugged into the power ok ?

gfx card seated properly and power connector seated into it ok ?
 
If all else fails try reseating the CPU, I had the same problem and it seemed to do the trick.
 
Try putting 1 stick of Ram in the 4th slot of the motherboard.
Then Clear the CMOS and remove the battery. Tap the power button to discharge the Capacitors and leave for a 60 seconds.
Put the battery back in, put the cmos jumper back and plug it back in.
Cross your fingers and power it up.

If that doesn't work, try to get some corsair Ram to enable you to get into the bios. I'm not sure what the spec is on your Ram, but these motherboards can be picky until you increase the Ram voltages.

tried all of the above and nothing.

hmm....i've had problems with this mobo with ram voltages before, you think that's the problem?

found like a single 512mb stick of kingston pc2-5300 going for like 5 quid, maybe get him to buy that just to test?
