Hi,
Just received some new hardware from OC, put it all together this morning. Problem is, when I hit the power button my PSU makes a sort of squealing noise then shuts down.

Here's the new stuff I installed:
Asus M4A77TD Pro AMD 770 board
AMD Phenom II X4 995
Patriot G Series AMD 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-10666

And this is the stuff I kept from my old system:
ATI 4850
OCZ Modstream 520w PSU, about 3 years old
Hard drive, optical drives, case etc

I'm guessing its a PSU issue? But I can't see how my PSU wouldn't be able to cope with that setup. I don't want to try turning it back on because it sounded really bad. Its an ATX PSU so I've got an EATX adapter on there but that shouldn't make a difference?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

You need to install one device at a time, install the cpu, ram, gfx card and put the power to the mobo, gfx card and try again, if that works, add one more until you find the problem.

That psu shoould be ok.

Even with just the motherboard (no gfx, HD, optical drive) plugged in it still happens. The CPU and PSU fans start spinning then shut off 2 seconds later.

I'm stumped

you did plug in the little 12v 4 pin plug next to the CPU did you? Thats beside the 24 pin plug.Got 2 yellow and 2 black cables on it

Yeah I've got the 4 pin and 24 pin plugged in. I'll test my PSU when I get back from work. Its strange because it was working fine 2 days ago when it was powering my old system, and I didn't remove it or fiddle with it in any way when installing the new components.

Thanks for the input guys

Tested my PSU and it works fine. No squeals or strange noises coming from it. Tested it with the 24 pin EATX adapter on it too and that also works.

I put my old motherboard / CPU etc back in and now that won't start up.. same problem. The PSU and CPU fans start spinning and then both shut off 2 seconds later. Everything is connected right, I've checked it all twice.

This is driving me mad!
