Up a Tree...
hello,

just got my motherboard and memory today,
so attempted at building the new pc this afternoon...

my new spec is...

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
2x 74gig / raid - raptors.
512mb ATI Sapphire x1900xtx

i first put it all together carefully...
went to power her up... it powered up for about a second then turned itself off. then a second later turned back again.... :/

also, the Artic cooler does not spin all the time, few time it spins, slowly, or the fan doesnt spin at all. (makes me worry) then it spins fine next time i power up?

the only bleep i get is 1 long(actually.. sounds ok 1 long..., is that its a memory or a motherboard issue?. - i took one of the ocz sticks out, but still same problem,
- no boot/post

no display either on monitor...

dont know what to do... if you look back at my previous threads.. kinda same problems. but this is a little different and totaly new parts :(

anyone got some help at hand?
is it a problem with my memory...

how new are you to building?
i take it you have connected the cpu power and the 24 pin?
could be a ram issue whereby it doesn't like that ram at default voltage and the ram needs more than 1.8 v to boot.

im good with self builds, well... use to be able to..
now all i tend to get is problems,

i was going to get the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit as i heard that was fine for this motherboard to boot...

not sure if the ocz needs to be changed... but i cant access the bios.
nor.. can i see any details on screen ;(

Look in the manual of the motherboard under troubleshooting it will give the reason for all the beeps.

yeh i did look, 1 short boots fine...
there is not a 1 long bleep, but i supose it could be 1 short...

there isnt any other bleeps, maybe i need to get a ps2 keyboard also,
as im using a usb one.

but that shouldnt effect the visual display not working :?

edit:::
checked on the gigabyte website, the memory is fine with the motherboard, its in there checklist.

not sure why it wont post, and why when i boot for first time, i starts then turns off for a second.. then back on by itself...

Q: What do the beeps emitted during the POST mean?
A: The following Award BIOS beep code descriptions may help you identify possible computer problems.
(For reference only.)
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

go back to basics and boot up with only
RAM, CPU and Gfx Card

Also have you ensured you have plugged in all the necessary power connectors?
i dont own a gigabyte but a lot of new mobos need additional connectors plugged in

yep installed all the leads and power connectors fine,
there's power, everything spins max,

no boot/post. only 1 bleep, (probably saying its ok)

but there is no display, so i cant see it...
just trying to find threads with simular problems...

i even just did a cmos reset... still no luck :(

This sounds similar to a problem I'm having. Same hardware but I've got 4gb RAM (2x2) and it worked fine for nearly a week. Then a couple of days ago tried to switch on and it just powers up then off and continues to do that until you turn off the power supply.

The cooler always took a few seconds to start but I thought that was normal because CPU temp stayed below 40c.

I've tried changing the power supply and resetting the CMOS. Memory was fine but I've tried it with just one stick in. Tonight I'm going to try some other memory and possibly switch the CPU from another computer.

I hope you get an answer because I'm running out of ideas.

I had to take the graphics card out to reset the CMOS. So its been reseated twice now. And it was fine before. I'll try a different card before I start messing about with the processor.

i had the same problem with my GA-P35-DS4 board, so i RMA'd it and looks like it was faulty as they are sending me a new one from germany.

just got my old ps2 keyboard in,
thought that would be a problem since im using a usb one, but nope...

still 1 long bleep.
no display,

tested graphics card in uncles pc. works fine.

i found that the reason it turns itself off straight away is a overclock issue.
where if its on a bad set up it reboots.

and the cpu fan doesnt spin all the time, only spin when it needs too.

though... i still cannot see or get into bios :(

so not sure what else i can try.

i will try to reset the cmos again...

I've just read that somewhere but I haven't overclocked. Looks like there are a few people having this problem on other forums. Most of them say that after three or four restarts they can get into the BIOS. I think I'll give it another try later and see what happens.

it just spins at max speed everything when i turn it on...

well my graphics card does anyway, but i get no display from it.

just 1 long bleep...

does yours spin at max?
i have tried a number of restarts... and 5 second power offs... but no good...

So far no BIOS, no display on screen, not sure about graphics card fan (it was very quiet anyway so I didn't notice the fan when it was working). The computer was built for someone else so I'm going over later to give it another go. Will let you know if I work it out.

try with one stick of the ram in each slot at a time if u get in change to manu's
recommended volts and put other ram in
