New Build Problems - Will not boot

I just received my new motherboard processer, gfx andram today along with my 520w corsair psu.

I am having a few issues though.

When connecting the 24pin power and the 4 pin power i get a long series of beeps, which is apparently a power error. The CPU fan does not spin

When i connect only the 24 pin the CPU fan spins, but no single beep to indicate it is booting.

Also when i put in my 8800gtx it makes a high pitch noise, and i have no idea why

core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz conroe
2gb 6400 ram
8800gtx 768mb

i have now got the 24 pin plugged in, leaving the 4pin/12v out

the gfx card is no longer making that strange noise.

problem is no beep to indicate it booting up, and no video output.

any ideas?
 
i have tried the system with a single stick of 5300 512mb 667mhz ram and still no joy getting it to post or boot atall.

any advice anyone can give atall?
 
The reason there is no beep is because the 4 pin power cable is the CPU power and without the CPU on it won't beep at all.

You tried the motherboard out of the case? try it without memory in, etc.

i have tried the board without ram and a single chip, no joy.

if i plug the 4 pin power cable in then the CPU fan doesnt spin and i get a long series of beeps, which indicates a power error according to the manual
 
ok, ive been trying and trying to get this going.

the motherboard/cpu seem to go fine, but when i turn it on the 8800gtx just makes a high pitch screaming noise which is coming from a little speaker component on it. i assume its an alarm of some sort but for what and what is it trying to tell me? google has been no help in finding out.

Is my 520w psu the problem? not enough power?

Shall i rma the gfx and motherboard?

Any advice would be helpfull as its annoying having £1k worth of equipment that refuses to work.
 
did you connect extra power to graphics card if it needs it.

Is cooling of the gfx working.

Audible alarms are usually warning about something serious like overheating.

the gfx card fan is working fine and so is the cpu fan. i considered that it could be an overheat but dont think its possible as the system hasnt been on for more than 60 seconds, not really time to heat up
 
Don't spose you could borrow an less power hungry graphic's card off of someone to try?

Also try not to just power up the board with either the 4 pin or 24 pin power leads missing because it could mess up the mobo or cpu (assuming that they are fine). :)

Do you have a monitor plugged in and turned? Sorry to be that basic butit happens.

If a dual head card does the monitor work on any channel.

Does the monitor respond to the card in any way?

Have you tried reseating all cards. memory etc.

Have you removed all unnecessary cards like n/w and audio.

have you booted with just one stick of ram not two. tried different slots

Does an alternative lower power video card work - those 8800 are heavy power users. Any chice of different slots.

Is he mobo shorting out anywhere on the case

Is the processor properly in contact with the heat sink

monitor is plugged in and working
no response atall from the monitor when connected to the gfx card
i have tried reseating the gfx card, it is the only card in the system
i have tested a single stick of pc6400 in every slot, as well as a single stick of pc5300 in each slot
the motherboard is not shorting atall on the case, i removed all components from the case onto an antistatic mat and tried to boot it up, same problems
the cpu and heatsink/fan is fitted properly and secure and making contact
the only other card i have is a geforce fx 5200 agp, which will not fit this motherboard
this 520w PSU is the highest power one i have currently
 
Difficult to debug without replacement kit. I was in that situation a few years back (different symptoms) and ended up replacing Mobo, processor,ram and video card because I couldn't bring myself to believe that my 2 year old enermax power supply was faulty. Itwas!

Beep patterns at boot are a diagnostic. It may be worth recording them exactly and researching on the internet. No beep is also telling - I just don't remember what. I suspect you have done this though.
If everything is working correctly with no video card you should get a beep pattern telling you there is a video problem.

BIOS. Loose chip. Corrupt?

Have you tried with some kind of bootable device attached like a floppy drive.

I suspect either lack of power or faulty video card at this point.

If you only connect one of the two PCI-E power connectors to a GeForce 8800GTX, the following two scenarios may occur:

If plugged into the outer connector, the system will boot into a low performance mode
If plugged into the inner connector, a loud warning message will occur at POST.

Some idiot (me) didn't remove the plastic cover from his P4 before fitting the fan. The resulting thermal trip came after a normal beep and about 10 secs. There were no additional beeps; it just tripped out like a laptop does if you leave it on the bed. I do that, too.

That's about all the help I can give. Good luck :)
