new build problems

I've just finished building my new system but I'm coming across a few problems.

The 2 major ones are these:

1) My 2 8800GTX's seem to be running incredibly hot. I can't even run 3DMark06 without them overheating (80+C)

2) In 3D mark when performing the CPU tests I thought my QX6800 would destroy them on the standard settings but its only getting 1-2 FPS.

I'm wondering if theres something else I need to do to make the system run correctly because it just seems a bit wierd at the moment. I do remember reading somewhere that sometimes voltages need to be manually set because the MB won't give them the correct amount, but I didn't want to go playing until I knew what I was doing.

Specs of my system are below:

Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680
Intel QX6800 running at stock speeds
2 x XFX 8800GTX's running in SLI (at least I think they are :p)
Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU

This is the first time I've built a system using either the C2D processor or SLI GFX cards so maybe theres just a step I've missed somewhere. If someone could point me in the right direction that'd be great.

Yeah each has got 2 power cords into them which I ran off of different rails from the PSU.

I'm going to try updating my BIOS because it may be down to older firmware not supporting them properly

If one of the PCI-E was not plugged in anyway you would hear beeping from the little speaker on the 8800.

80+ aint overheating for an 8800GTX, thats perfectly find, overclocked and my 8800GTS reached 84degerees, I imagine the temps are going to be higher with 2 8800GTX's in there.

Maybe its not the GFX cards beeping then, but whenever anything intensive comes up something starts beeping and then goes away when I minimise it.

OK I've updated the BIOS and the CPU tests in 3DMark06 have now gone up 1fps but I'm still only getting a score of 4195 using CPU only tests, which seems quite low.

It appears to be using all 4 cores so I would have really thought it would have been better.

There's nothing wrong with your system, at all. Everything you've posted is fine.

Just run 3DMark06 and let us know what you got. :) You should get around 16K stock.

Ok I've run a test and come out at 16016 points LINK

The only problem is that the GFX cards were beeping most of the way. I'm quite sure its the cards now because I unplugged the on board speaker.

Is there anyway of cooling these cards down ? Because as it currently stands I've got a beast of a system and I can't run games at the full resolution.
