OK today i have been building my new pc, this is the first time ive tried to build but with all the threads on various site i was feeling quite confident i was up to the job

my specs are

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail 1
Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black) 1
Pioneer DVR-212D 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM
Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A33435)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail 1
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard 1
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) X2

OK everything went well, turned it on for the first time and all was good straight into BIOS and it had found my HDD and DVD drive, so i saved settings and exited without touching anything else, and now no matter what i do it wont stay on, the red light stays on but the Green light (VCC) stays on for about 5 secs then goes off resetting the whole thing

Anybody got any ideas hwat to do or if ive done something wrong or just havent done something im supposed to?

Thanks
Chris

Does the system actually come back on afterwards? Such as turns on, then off, then back on and stays on or does it turn on then turn off and stays off?

I tried it for a minute and it starts and stops continuously , everytime it starts it gives 2 beeps is this indicating something?

2 short beeps means a RAM problem. Try the following:

1. Take both RAM sticks out
2. Try it again with stick #1 on it's own
3. If it doesn't work try it again with stick #2 on it's own
4. If it still doesn't work reset the CMOS (take out the battery for 10 mins then put it back in).

ok i tried all 4 sticks in all 4 places and it still gave the 2 beeps as it started up, then i reset the cmos and it stilled beeped but it stayed on (YOU LEGEND) so i can now get into BIOS but now i cant load windows, i choose to boot from cd and it gets to where it says boot from cd then restarts the pc any ideas?

Do i need to do something to the HDD before i can install windows eg.Format? if so how ?

Thanks sooooo much for the help it is appreciated

If it's still beeping when you keep the machine on, however you can enter the BIOS then there is still a problem present. I would start by upping the RAM voltage by +0.1 to 1.900v and rebooting and seeing if that fixes the problem. If not then try with 2 sticks only in a dual channel setup also at 1.9v. I would also avoid trying to install Windows until the problem is resolved or you will have problems eventually if you did manage to get Windows installed.

If you still can't get it stable at 1.9v with either 4 sticks or 2 sticks then I would run memtest on the machine for about 20 loops intially to see if any problems arise. If you start getting errors then you might have a bad stick of RAM. You can get memtest86+ from here.

ok tried that and although i did get further through the installation i still got the beeps and it still froze on me, i also noticed that the stick were warm not really hot just warm i thought that twas strange since they arent really doing ought?

Thanks

Could have a dodgy stick of RAM somewhere, did you test all the sticks individually? Ie. trying stick #1 in by itself and seeing if it beeps, then stick #2 by itself and so forth, rather than just trying to different configurations of all 4 sticks. I would definetly also memtest the RAM to make sure that there's not a problem with the RAM or memory controller (link mentioned in previous post).

ok i meant to reply yesterday but i forgot, got up wednesday morning after letting memtest run all night and was no errors, i exited and restarted pc, and for some reason pc is now running like a dream, windows installation went smooth and now have no beeps or anything

Strange but im now a happy man

Thanks for all the help flibby much appreciated
