Its been about 5 years since my last system build so excuse the noob question.

I've recently built a new PC. In the past i have just taken my old main boot drive out and plugged it into the new PC without having to do a fresh install which would cause me to lose my programs etc.

After putting to together the PC yesterday i tried this however Windows 7 refuses to boot up.
From what I've read online i will probably have to do a fresh install (due to driver conflicts) and re-install all the programs that were on my old main boot drive,is this correct? If so is there any way of doing a fresh install on a new SSD then adding all the new drivers and cloning all my data ie emails programs onto it without transferring across drivers from my old system.

Thanks :)

Hi,
Did you go from AMD to Intel or vice versa. The reason I ask is that Windows will throw a tantrum and BSOD then try to run repair which will fail. What you could if you have another SSD is to install a fresh install of Windows on this and you can still access the programmes you have on your other drive by taking ownership of them.
Hope this helps

A clean install is usually recommended. However, I just uninstall all drivers and chipset, via Program and Features and Device Manager, prior to removing from my old system to a new one.
Have you tried using your Win 7 installation disc and doing a repair?
