Sony Optiarc AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

Hey,
Just built a new system... Upon installing the New OS (windows 7 x64 - legit) i noticed the res was awful low even for install ie (640x480) but ignored and continued but the system blue screened when expanding files... i did a second check of settings and all that fluff but all seemed fine.
I tried to install again but i took 3 attemps before windows was to install without blue screening - later to find it was to be "bad pool header" ?!? Am not sure what this is and a quick google doesnt really narrow it down.

However after getting to windows desktop... naturall i wanted to set the Res higher. Properties>etc>etc only to find it was fixed at 640X480 and to go no higher ??? it also says it is connected to the HD5770 via VGA ? when it is conected via DVI.
I figured i would try to install drivers for the card... upon which it Bluescreened on the web browser, after a restart i was able to get the drivers but upon clicking install i got an error saying it was not possable?!?
I closed down before i got another bluescreen then triple checked and swapped ram slots (as in my experience most BSOD happen with regards to ram).
After another restart i noticed Windows7 was loading with the old default loading bar.. rather than the 4 coloured windows coming together!
So i decided to do a computer index score thing... everything came back with a fair mark except the Graphics on a 1.0 ?!
I have a HD5770 (although not with me) and that clears the Index with a 7.9 without drivers.
So is there an ovious issue with regards to the graphics leading to BSOD...

I would much appresiate the help.

Many thanks.

hard one, does that mobo have on board graphics if so disable it, that would be my first port off call.

also is everything connected that should be, and check to make sure the GPU is in properly

There is no onboard graphics unfortunatly.
I have Checked all cables and fittings/sockets including the Gfx card is in properly... all is good.
?!

Any other ideas..?

thanks for replys

before the windows boot screen press TAB (like the F8 screen ) you should get\to the windows boot menu page for mem test or boot windows norm press tab to select memtest and press enter, see if that throws any errors if it does take one of the ram sticks out run the test again work out witch one is in error

if you have an spare video card try as well, windows vista and 7 should be working at 1024x786 as its basic VGA works quite well, but if your video card has got an issue its starting it in safe vga mode but still could be other issues

installing windows should not give you any BSOD issues at all under norm use

Ok thanks i am just running the Mem test and status at 1of2 is already " hardware problems were detected" so i shall try one stick at a time now see what results i get.

Would a memory problem cause the Gfx card to run in safe mode...

thanks for the help

I have now got the PC with my other and swapped out the Gfx cards - i am now on the new build with no signs of being unstable ei.. yet to BSOD. and it instantly loaded with the better loading screen and allowed me to change the res (on a GTS 8800).

Is there a reason the HD5770 could be running in safe mode?

Any help would be much appresiated!

Thanks

Recent issues with memory here too mate.
If returning the memory DIMM, make sure to return the pair so a fresh pair are RMA'ed back to you.
Memory manufacturer will probably request this anyways.

Good Luck
