Good morning, all.

Very brief about me and why I'm returning..... I've been a gamer my whole life and started out on the commodore 64 many moons ago and gaming has been part of my life ever since, granted I have been a console player pretty much since the PS1 and owned every console since, I enjoy all genres of gaming to sim, RPG, Shooters and pretty much anything ..... I last built a PC 20 odd years ago so I'm touch out of date.
I still follow most current hardware and software trends and I am very aware of the price hike in Ram/GPU costings but I really don't want to put off another build (My Series X is coming to its end and I am reluctant to buy another console)

So my question is mainly about GPU and I'm sure I've missed a thread about this somewhere on this forum

AMD Radeon 9070xt or Nvidia 5070ti ???

I know it's not a simple answer and I respect everyone's opinions but I'm looking to build something with longevity, I would like it to be capable of running games like GTA6, CODMW4, Ace Combat.... pretty much anything tbh - Ideally running at 1440p

Now there is (was) scope to up the budget and incorporate a 5080 and run at 4k but the GPU pricing increase means I'll have to a, wait longer (to save) or b, compromise on other hardware

Current template for the build

Case - Antec Flux pro black or Fractial design North XL black - I don't do RGB
Motherboard - MSI X870E GAMING PLUS WIFI AMD X870E
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU - ??
RAM - min 32gb DDR5 (6000hz CL30/32)
SSD - Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe
PSU - Corsair RMx Series RM1000x 1000W Cybenetics Gold
Cooling - Arctic Freezer III PRO 360 Black All-In-One 360mm CPU Liquid Cooler + as many non RGB fans I can get in the case

Current budget is around £3.5k and I will need to upgrade my monitor too

I would love to hear from to 9070 users who can run 4k and if the opinion is to wait and save a little more for a 5080 I can do ..... just getting impatient now and like I said my Series X is on its last legs

Thank you in advance and I appreciate all feed back

Rem ;)

Welcome to the forums

Few points:
1) Thankfully your budget is sufficient for your requirements
2) Whilst I appreciate that you don't need/want RGB, the fact is that most components these days do indeed come with RGB. However, the beauty is that you do not need to plug in the RGB headers = No RGB. As such, the requirement of (not) having RGB is a non-issue
2b) Some of the parts I've specced does have RGB functionality, but as (2), you do not need to plug in the RGB header to satisfy your requirements of "no RGB"

Slightly overbudget, but in return you get:
1) 4K 32 inch 240Hz OLED monitor
2) A 9850X3D
3) A 2TB gen 5 SSD
4) A 5080
5) I've respected your "no RGB" requirements as much as possible, but as mentioned above, you don't need to plug in the RGB header
6) (Full MSI build for what it's worth  )

My basket at OcUK:
Total: GBP3621.83 (includes delivery: GBP0.00)

PS: I also use the case that I've recommended
I just swapped my case from white to black (Jonsbo D31 to a Lian Li V100 mini)
With the right internals...looks pretty damn good lol

Thank you for the responses, It's greatly appreciated.

@Gray2233 - When you say "You're massively overspending on a number of components for zero real world benefit" could you elaborate? Don't mean to sound ungrateful I just want to understand your thoughts so I am going into this armed with all the right facts.

My aim is to future proof as much as possible, I'm sure I'll be upgrading at some point but ideally I would prefer to do incremental upgrades when required ... like Ram for instance from 32 - 64

1. While cases are personal preference, spending £150 on one isn't necessarily the best use of funds, there's plenty of more than capable alternatives for a lot less money, including those listed above.
2. The 990 EVO Plus can be expensive, although it does depend on where you purchase from (we can only directly discuss OCUK pricing on this forum), and at 1tb in size it's going to fill up fast, there's more than competent 2tb drives well within your budget.
3. The Corsair RM1000X isn't a bad power supply by any means, but there's fantastic cheaper PSU's available such as the Lian LI RS/SX and FSP VITA-GM.
4. You don't really gain anything with X870E over B850 in a gaming build, it's mostly just access to USB4, spending £200 + on a board isn't going to improve your performance or longevity, there's plenty of sub £150 motherboards that can run higher end processors under sustained productivity loads.
5. The Arctic Freezer Pro is a good AiO, but the 9800X3D/9850X3D are fairly easy to cool, frankly I only listed one myself due to aesthetics, a £30 air cooler such as the Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit would be ample.

Perfect thank you again ..... I'll keep you posted on the build process

your comment on the PSU and Motherboard is exactly why I joined this forum, also you mentioned about loosing 15-20% performance using the 9070xt has completely sold me on going for the 5080

also you mentioned about loosing 15-20% performance using the 9070xt has completely sold me on going for the 5080
you have the budget, so, spend it on the 5080
the 9070xt is more like an entry-level 4k card

Yeah and the other thing is the 5080 is a really nice overclocker 10% more performance is easily achieved with a few button presses in afterburner.

So taking on the input from you guys this is where I'm at, I've gone for a dearer case purely for aesthetics as it will fit in well with the rooms decor

Also correct me if I'm wrong but a larger case and motherboard will help with overall cooling stability? .....this may just be me overthinking it but overheating is a big concern of mine

Also will the thermal paste supplied with CPU Cooler be sufficient ?

Airflow is the key , moving hot air out while drawing in cooler air so slightly more intake fans than exhaust is the ticket.

There might be some truth to that for very high end workstations, but there's little to nothing I can think of on the consumer side where smaller form factors will pose a significant problem and certainly not for a gaming build.

I've ran M-ATX exclusively across multiple builds for over a decade now with zero issues, I simply prefer the smaller form factor and there's not much need for the extra expansion slots on a standard ATX anymore. My audio equipment is all external (AvR, WA7 headphone DAC/AMP) and multi-gpu for gaming has went the way of the dodo, not that I'd pony up the money for a second GPU at the moment anyway.

I've always preferred smaller builds (MATX and ITX) and my current Lian Li is objectively the biggest case that I've owned lol (hence the need for AliExpress waifus :P )

I've crammed more power hungry components into smaller cases before:
1080ti in a RVZ03 SFF case: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/tamzzys-back-to-air-cooling-itx-build.18862455/
7990 quadfire in a MATX case: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/tamzzys-fractal-arc-mini-quadfire-madness.18608010/

I miss those days...

Probably a perception left over from the old days of PCs, with those cramped little cases that had no airflow and 1x 80mm fan.
