New build - some boots have no display?

PC is built, except for GPU which is still in this system. I've booted up new PC, gone into BIOS to set XMP etc but I've noticed that about one in three boots results in no display. I see A9 "normal setup" code but nothing on monitor.

Monitor is X34A; could it be something to do with Gsync?

Dp between motherboard GPU and display, yes. 980ti isn't connected, as that's in the old system still. Same dp cable though.

It's not what I thought maybe the issue.

There's a known issue with the nViidia 9 and 10 series cards when using a DP port. Some cards will not register a display every few boots. Some cards have BIOS fixes others you either live with the annoyance or use an HDMI cable.

That said have you tried the HDMI output on your MB?

It's really annoying. I'll be in the middle of setting up the bios and boom, no signal. No codes or light changes on the mobo that I can spot.

Sorry, Plec, I'm tired and didn't see the bit about the lead. Nope, haven't got one to hand, but will take the PC to work tomorrow and try there.

Asus Maximus X Hero Z370 (latest 1003 BIOS)
8700K
2x8GB GSkill C17 3600
Seasonic Focus+ 750W Gold

Hopefully can test it before 14 day period is up, RMA and should be a straight swap

No worries bud, understandable that your tired/frustrated with a new build not playing ball.

It's a quality build with a Tier 1 PSU backing it up.

I would perhaps clear the CMOS and try dropping the memory to 3200 as a precautionary test too.

Thanks I'll try resetting the BIOS, although it appears that update process did that anyway. The RAM defaulted to 2133 and it did it then. It was the second POST before I got display, then simply going to set the system time was enough to kick it off again. It seems random; it will either post fine, post without display, or post with display then go off when randomly. Really hope it's not a faulty item...

Really poor video, bit when it does appear on the display, it flickers like this at first:

https://youtu.be/qOL4EO2XQzw

Video doesn't show it, but it's like 3/4 of a frame of static.

I'm guessing you have - but have you installed the latest INTEL VGA driver and chipset drivers etc?..

It was only released a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry, phone spam , tried one stick of ram ?
I'll add that to the list of things to check, although both report correctly in bios.

I need to move fast because I ordered all the gear on 30th Dec but only started putting it together tonight due to amazon taking forever to deliver the ram.

I've not even installed Windows yet; this is purely in the uefi bios.

Definitely try 1 stick - alternate sticks and slots. The fact that it registers is unfortunately no guarantee that all is well

I would also try plugging directly into the wall socket if using an extension lead.

HDMI will be a good test as it will rule out a dodgy DP port. (could you nick one off the TV?)

Some companies will give you a longer return period when ordering over the Xmas period - Rainforest is one of them.

Raise RMA with OCUK anyways, can always point them to the thread. They'll test the board . Unfortunately your out of luck having your hardware tested - not sure there RMA includes using same exact setup ?

Could be a fault with internal GPU . Does happen now and again of faulty chips but mainly see them with buggies ram controllers

I didn't buy from OCUK this time, I bought it from the place that has the name like what you do to a bar code... Ha. They had a sale on all the bits I wanted so was a no brainer.
