Hello, I am spec'ing a new machine for Adobe After Effects and gaming. AE is CPU and ram intensive. I have the following spec so far for a 4770k and need 32gb of ram. I haven't selected dimms, psu or cpu cooler as I would like some recommendations here.

Req's 32gb ram, psu and cpu cooler low noise - if that possible. SLI for future.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 500GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE500BW) £289.99

Doomedspeed is right, I think that would be a better way to spend the money.

Would it also be worth adding a couple of 1850rpm GT's for the the H80i to quieten it down?

I am not quite sure about the i7-4820K, from what I can tell the decision leans towards it if you can get it to clock well. Found this article. What do you think Doom?

I found that earlier too. :D

It does seem a bit of a catch 22..

If you go for the 4770k and need more power (start heavier CAD of video editing) you'll have to switch 2011 costing more (to get a hex core)

My thought is 2011 offers a path upto the Hex-cores where as the 4770k is top of the line

but if you go with 4820k and get a bad overclocking chip you'd of been better of saving £40-£50 and going for the 4770k..

Also SLI on 2011 boards are better x16/x16 rather than x8,x8 (not a huge difference but there is a difference :)) and Tri-SLI x16/x8/x8 (i think) rather than x8/x8/x4 (not that you have Tri-SLI in mind at the moment.

From personal experience, if you are doing a lot of AE work (As in daily) go for a 2011 CPU.

I have a 3770k at home & a 4960X at the office, I am always going in just to render work out. The 2011 CPU easily renders projects 4x faster. Even if your CPU doesn't overclock well, I'm sure it'll be worth it for the amount of time you'll save when working in AE.

Another thing..

2011 board have 8 RAM slots so currently can have a maximum of 64GB of RAM where as 1150 only has 4 DIMM's so only 32Gb of RAM.

Just a thought. :D
