I sure hate spamming the forums with these threads, but you guys are just always so helpful.

Need a build to be delivered in the next week, mainly for BF3 and other games. All my old hardware is disappearing, so I need tower, monitor, keyboard.

Would like to spend £500-£600 on the base unit, I'm thinking of the £100 Benq (I have one for work and its fantastic quality for the money).

Really appreciate the help.

If BF3 is your main priority then this would be a better option.

The more memory of the 470 will help with higher settings at 1080 and will also overclock to the same level as a overclocked 560TI

Also the 6 cores of the 1055T will be better for BF3 and is also the 95w version so should overclock very well and remain cool and is still teh best cpu amd do.

And the motherboard has a lot of options for sli and crossfire, more expansion slots ie Plus the option of bulldozer if that gets any good in the next revision...

3 PCI-E vs 1
2 PCI vs 1
4 memory slots vs 2
6x 6/gbs sata vs 2

The case selected is very good budget case and good airflow for gpu's.

Take alook here on a build log i done in one.

Yes point being these are old games which are unoptimized for 4+ cores and does not need a lot of Vram .....

Hell i can run any off them games at 2560x1440 and not get past 1280mb Vram.....BF is a diffrent kettle of fish iam afraid

But as the OP requests "mainly for BF3"....

Plus the 470 scales better when overclock IE yeilds more performance per MHZ overclocked so put the 2 against each other when overclocked iam sure the 470 would just edge it ....

You mention SLI GTX470, yet the OP will need a much better PSU for this. Plus a GTX470 is hot and very very loud ( I have one;))

Bulldozer is utter crap and its replacement Piledriver is stated to only being 10% better, which still means it will be crap.

The H67 board is ivybridge compatible and will give PCI-E3.0 when this CPU is installed.

I mention my SLI set up as an example as it has more than enough grunt to run any game at high FPS, till you hit the Vram limit and the games you are putting up as a comparison are old games and dont use much vram.

Once you hit the Vram limit your FPS will plumit/ cause lag spikes which will results in a poor gaming experiance.

BF3 is reported to use up too 1.5gb of Vram at 1080 which is the most used res, and the extra 280mb of ram will help to keep the frame rate much smoother

I know bulldozer is pants. But you are also comparing a stock i3 which can not be overclocked against a stock 1055T which can be overclocked, in a benchmark which will only use up to 4 cores at the most so you yer if you want to play old games the i3 is the better choice.

Battlefeild will use all the power of 6 cores and would probably equale the same work produced per core as the i3 When the 1055T is overclocked but isted of being a duel core with hyper threading which is about 3 core performance as each hyperthreading thred produces about 1/2 that of the original core.

Where the 1055T is a true Hex Core and has 6 pysical cores

Which brings me on to the motherboard which will support more ram and also SLI later on if he wants it with an upgrade of PSU but it is still an option

Also a 470 does not have to be hot or loud Trust me i've owned 5 lol i had zalman cooler on one of mine and it never went over 65 and what the quitest thing in my HTPC so that would be a good option later on for him then he could over clock to 570 performance with easy and having a cooler and quiter card for a extra £30 later on ....

That review shows the AMD above the i3 when overclocked to 4.2 ghz(still egnoring 2 cores of the hex)

And that only shows the older 955 quad core ???

Yes its the Alpha, but its a good judge of performance:)

That is indeed a faster per core 955be as I said,

How far can the non Black edition CPU clock too using just the FSB?

I will let the OP decide which way to go:)

4ghz-4.2ghz due to it being the low wattage 95W

Yer its the alpha and thats only metro which is a lot easier to run than caspin border a proper BF map have a little read

Interesting stuff... Going to mull over the links and have a deeper read.

For the moment though, I am leaning towards an Intel i5. Extra I know, but I'd rather go that little further. Will these CPU coolers be suitable?

Get a Retail CPU and it includes a cooler which is good for 4ghZ ± a bit
