After reading through this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18429129&page=2

I got a little unsure about going ahead and ordering what was recommended to me here by stulid:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18443840

Only because no-one else posted :p I am such a noob when it comes to hardware, so if I could get a wider audience to tell me listen to stulid I'm going to order it on the 1st of october. For those who don't want to trawl the other thread (all 5/6 posts lol) the spec he recommended me was:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £161.99
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128D/EU) £89.99
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB2133C11DC) £35.99
Total : £484.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Opinions would be appreciated. I don't mind spending money, I just want a great gaming system that'll play modern games (and games out within the next year/two) on full graphics!

Is this going to be the common theme of the replies :p

Seeing his post count did make me think he was worth listening to, I just really wanted to be sure!

I keep finding gfx cards and getting put off by searching for reviews then fidning reviews that contrast with other reviews lol, any recommendations?

Stulid,

I noticed you spec the X versions of this and another one I went for this one in my bulid is it good?

Your spec was what was good for you and your budget, a nicely rounded system..

The Z77-D3H doesn't support SLI and only does Crossfire at 16X/4X, if a single card setup is all you want, then its spot on.

I see now that was a good choice for me then because I didn't need SLI

Learn something new everyday :D

Ivy bridge is bad for ocing, the temps go to extreme scale. To get 4.5ghz on ib you have to have best cooling if you do like your system silent. Thats why go SB, have a read in cpu section about ivy complains.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x ASRock Z77 Pro4 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £97.99
1 x Intel 330 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £79.99
1 x Samsung Green (MV-3V4G3D/US) 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit £41.99
Total : £410.76 (includes shipping : £9.00).

I just notice, because there use to be i5 2550k and thats why i got mixed up.

Stulid, Asrock has many futures and i seen 5Ghz on them. Well at the place i work on weekends lots of people are enoyed with IB, they usualy then go for Sandy.
SSD changed to intel, but ocz ssd are not that bad as you think ;]

I'm not fussed about the cost stulid, I just want to know I've got the best system for my cash.

If this was speccing a new engine build I'd be all over it!

Am I right in thinking SSD's are the norm nowadays for operating systems/ installing games etc? Last w/c'd system I built SSD's weren't on the market If I remember right!

Gigabyte,

3 year warranty (2 for the Asrock) and UK based RMA center (not Timbuktu)
DualBIOS (save bad BIOS flashes etc)
Supports SLI+crossfire at 8X/8X.

The Asrock is Crossfire only and at 16X/4X
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77 Pro4/?cat=Specifications
- 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (PCIE2: x16 mode)
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE3: x4 mode)

The Asrock has no redeeming qualities what so ever.

SSD's are much more "nippy" and "responsive" etc than a mechanical HDD.

Use a SSD for the OS and what ever else you can fit on the space available.

Then a HDD for storage etc.
