Looking to do a new build, budget is around £3000.

I have the following requirements:

1. Full Custom Loop including Graphics and CPU (preferably full motherboard cooling too)

2. Icy Dock MB996SP-6SB (or similar 6x SSD for RAID)

3. 6x 480GB SSD (SATA 3)

4. 2x NVidia Graphics (SLI) preferably GTX 780s (either reference design or with blocks attached)

5. Minimum of 32GB Quad Channel DDR3

6. 3x 2k Displays (preferably 27" or bigger)

7. Modular PSU powerful enough to handle it all without any problems, but not overkill.

8. Intel CPU (preferably one with grunt that can be over-clocked)

9. Motherboard must allow for good overclocking and support 64GB DDR3 Quad Channel.

No Optical Drive Required.

No Case Required (having a custom desk built).

It is a big ask I know, but I am pretty sure it is do-able and you guys always come up with some great builds.

OK This is the best I could come up with so far and is a compromise on the list above - no PSU yet... (I could probably extend the budget by another £1500 at a push):

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Tech Labs H2O Custom GTX 780 Ti 3072MB GDDR5 Watercooled Graphics Card £674.99
1 x OcUK Eyefinity Bundle: 3x Asus VN247H 24" Widescreen LED Super Slim Bezel Monitors with OcUK Triple Stand £449.96
1 x MSI Z97 XPower AC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £289.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £269.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 32GB (4x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit (KHX24C11T3K4/32X) £269.99
4 x Crucial M500 480GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (CT480M500SSD1) £179.99 (£719.96)
1 x ICY DOCK MB994SP-4S 4x2.5 to 5.25 SATA/SAS Backplane £61.99
Total : £2,753.06 (includes shipping : £13.50).

I really would prefer 2k monitors but I am happy to compromise the 6 SSDs for 4 and I could even sacrifice the Icy Dock if needed (although it is so cheap I don't see the point of losing the convenience of Hot Swap). I have settled for a single GTX 780 Ti because of the 1080p displays, I presume I would need 2 to run 3x 2k displays efficiently?

I note there are no 1150 motherboards out yet with support for 64GB RAM (or at least I couldn't find any) so am I better of going with a different CPU or should I stay with the 4790k?

I have not included any water cooling equipment for the loop yet (looking for advice on this).

This is much tougher than I thought it would be. If push comes to shove I would settle for AMD over Intel (this is my first Intel build, I have always gone AMD in the past) if it gives more room in the budget.

Normal Haswell CPUs don't support 64gb ram, but tbh it's totally overkill. They only support 32gb. Ivy E supports 64gb ram.

Hi,

May I ask where these requirements came from? Just 'pulling' them out the blue seems a bit suspicious, or (dare I say) not well thought out.

What is this build going to be used for?

Do you need Eye-finity? as a 1440p or 144hz or dare I say 4k monitor (single) may be better. :)

You seem very heavy handed with the RAM too, any reason for this? :)

Work and Play machine (often both at the same time) so at least 2 displays so I can keep working as I play in the second display.

RAM is important, I work hard and I play hard.

How is it suspicious? What can be suspicious about building a rig lol.

Custom Loop because

a: I value the quiet and performance
b: where I live it gets bloody hot (upto 40C in the summer)

I do a lot of CPU and RAM heavy work - I don't need to explain what that work is, that is my affair - I don't understand why you think it is "suspicious", I simply asked for some build advice.

This less expensive motherboard has a watercooling heatsink too.

Avexir MPower Yellow Strobe Light RAM looks great in builds with this type of MSI mobo. OcUK don't stock 2 (or 4) x 8GB sticks though.

Thanks for the motherboard option. Not really interested in flashy lights or anything like that, I want the custom loop for cooling and performance purposes.

Since the entire machine will be under an glass lid, flashing lights will just distract me when I am trying to work. This entire build will be built into a custom aluminium desk with a glass top that lifts up for easy access to the components.
