New build time!

Hi all,

I've been running the machine in my sig for the last 10 years and it's beginning to struggle quite significantly with gaming and I'm thinking it's time to replace the motherboard and cpu. I'm tempted to keep the 1060 for the time being.

The other main use I have for the computer will be music production, but audio stuff doesn't come close to maxing out my current machine so any new computer won't even break a sweat with that. What is important is that the machine operates as quietly as possible. I've got a good case for that and I've got a good noctua cooler that I can salvage. I need at least 6 SATA ports on the motherboard.

I was thinking maybe a 13600k build but I have absolutely no idea about current chipsets and could use a bit of help understanding the current world of desktop PCs. I'm not planning to overclock at the moment, but I would like the option to be able to in the future.

I'm looking for recommendations for a motherboard, RAM, and maybe PSU if times have significantly moved on in terms of motherboard power connectors since 2013. Budget is around £600-£700.

Cheers :)

For gaming you will want a better GPU.

With regards to noise, consider putting the system unit at a distance from your desk. You can use fibre-optic cables.

I'll consider a better GPU in the future. What's important now is the CPU/MoBo/RAM. I'll probably quite enjoy using the 1060 without it being bottlenecked by a 3770k - I have low expectations :).

In terms of noise, I can't move it much further away than it already is. I'm just looking to lower the noise floor a bit when I'm recording vocals or instruments with a condenser mic. I like the 1060 because it doesn't activate the fans until it's in game.

Do you need WiFi , added it anyway on the board and motherboard has 6 sata ports.

You will need a SKT 1700 adapter for you cooler or spend £35 and get the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 se

Would strongly advise that you get an m2 drive to take advantage of the latest tech

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £697.96 (includes delivery: £8.00)

Awesome thank you. I use ethernet but it's always good to have a backup option and onboard wifi will free up the pcie slot currently occupied by a redundant wifi card. A new SSD is on my list for near future upgrades anyway as my main ssd is currently sitting at 50% health in crystal disk info.

Noctua are pretty good for having new mounting hardware right? The coolers don't seem to change much over time.
