New build to replace Sandybridge pc!

I can't see the point in doing a DDr4 build these days, you are saving little in the long run,
i would agree if OP was upgrading every year/other year as then could carry the ram forward, but a simple ddr4 build would provide the best value currently

and £630 is hella expensive for a 6800XT, you'd hope it would be 40% faster if you are paying 50%+ more for it.
it is, but total system costs stay roughly similar if the parts are chosen correctly
at time of posting i've only gone for ocuk parts
as always, you and me will tell people to shop around for the best prices

Good points and noted
However 6800xt way over-powered for 1080p
Also RAM linked is £60 more - you actually likely to notice that much difference?

Also the MSI DDR5 board is out of stock

If your gaming at 1440p you really need to push another £100 for the sahphire rx 6700xt pulse over the 6650xt. A lot of the time at 1440p the 6700xt has higher minimum frame rates than the 6650 has high frame rate.

Nope still on 1080p
But happy to go back to the 6700….

Still decidedly on the fence about your latest spec
Just for my own understanding, rather than forcing my assumptions...
what are the chances you will upgrade the CPU/GPU within the next 3-4 years?
Also, is 1440p gaming a possibility in the near future (1 year)?
Is there any reason you need 2 ssds for 3tb space? £250 for 3tb of ssds seems very OTT for the vast majority of users
When do you intend to buy the pc?
Are you interested in overclocking the CPU?

I do have like 500gb music alone, hence why the second 1tb ssd
Games are only getting bigger!
If I had the money a second upgrade maybe possible but not a guarantee
1440p would be cool but not too fussed - I just want to play latest games!
I can’t play Doom Eternal nor RE2/3 with my old pc
Hoping to pull trigger ASAP, and also overclocking never hurt anyone

Would a single 2tb SSD suffice? Music and media files can be stored on a standard HDD and this would save some £££

What is your budget? £1500?
Budget is around £1500 yes
They are currently on a 1tb WD black hdd, but it’s a few years old now
A standard ssd would suffice I guess, but didn’t make much sense given the few quid difference in price.

I'd go for a 6700/xt now if buying a GPU.

You've had your system for 10 years or so, so worth going bigger on the rest of the system which will be more static and going for a bang for buck GPU.

Although they are expensive components, I think it's better value for money to go mid to high range GPU with the plan of replacing them every so often, otherwise you are paying top end premium.

I replaced a Sandy bridge system at the end of 2020 but was still using a 1070 until mid June 2021 went to a 3070 which I got (for the time) a very good deal on.

I would anticipate upgrading the GPU at least once more on my existing system.

@tamzzy
That spec looks good but for the sake of a little more money, and along with other suggestions, I’ll stick with the 6700XT along with my latest spec
Only thing bugging me now is whether I switch to 360mm AIO and fill the front of the case,or stick with 240mm…?
