New Build Tomorrow! :D

Good luck with the build and I hope your parts arrive OK;) What did you get by the way?

Meh favours! :p

Well got some parts from OcUk, which arrived on Sat Yay! Some parts from a nasty competitor ;) which also arrived on Sat.. *double yay!*

And some watercooling parts from a specialist, which didn't arrive *boo*

This is what I ordered, bear in mind some parts are for a new build, some are to upgrade an old build:

1 - Intel Xeon 3200 Series X3210
1 - Lian Li PC-A16B Aluminium Full-Tower - Black
1 - Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Waterblock
1 - Thermochill PA120.2 120mm Double Radiator
1 - OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
1 x Q6600 G0
1 x Gigabyte P35-DS3R
1 x 550W PSU
2 x YateLoons
1 x ThermoChill PS120 Performance Shroud Size 120.2
1 x Danger Den Delrin Fillport
1 x EK-Multioption RES 150
5ft x XSPC tubing
1 x D-Tek dB-1 Compact 12v Pump
2 x XSPC X2O Delta CPU Waterblock
+clips and tubing etc

Think thats it, all I have managed to do so far is test the Q6600 G0 in my old P965-DS3 Rev 1 (cos people had said it wouldn't work, but it does :p)

Looks like you are having fun :D

*UPDATE*

CPUz1-1.jpg

Still running sweet at the above settings.
Can anyone suggest any settings for my set up? Its been a while since I used Intel:D

Kit & Settings as follows:

Asus Striker Extreme (1305 BIOS)
2 X 1Gb Crucial Ballistix 720/ 15,5,5,5, 2.3V
Intel Q6600 G0 @ 3.46GHz (Details in CPUz screenie above)
(temps: 61 load/ 49 idle)
Gainward Bliss 8800GTX @ 600/2100
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
2 X WD Raptor RAID 0
1 X WD 400Gb SATA Storage
Asetek Xtreme 12V Pump
Custom Ressy
Alphacool CPU block (Urgent upgrade req'd:))
Asetek Black Ice Triple 120mm Rad
Akasa Eclipse 62
Tagan Easycon U-15 580W PSU

I've read loads of reviews on various forums and tech blogs/ sites slagging the Striker off with quad cores and also many bad reports on the 1305 BIOS. General concensus is that its impossible to get a stable clock of over 2.8GHz without a blue screen after 2 hours?

One thing I have noticed is there aren't half the OC'ing options that I've seen on some 680i boards like the EVGA/ BFG.

Any ideas on how to clock the nuts even further off my new rig will be appreciated.:D

680i boards have been known to kill ram above 2.3v so I would back down a notch there.

The Striker Bios is pretty similar to the EVGA 680i. Put AI tuning to manual and you should the options you are familiar with. Disable all the usual, Vanderpool, C1E etc...

Impossible to get stable over 2.8ghz? Rubbish. I helped someone clock thier board and G0 Quad to 3.6Ghz the other week. ;)

Not disabled vanderpool,C1e etc....thanks for that:)

Thats what I thought - I spent all day saturday building it and got this oc out of it in 5 minutes so I can't understand why so many people are slagging this board off. One quick bash of "Asus Striker quad 6600" into google and there's moaning and groaning everywhere.

Used to get in OcUK tech though mate, people blame the colour of the bird that flew past their window when they powered the PC up before they blame there own skills/ knowledge:D

Anyway, I'm pretty happy at 3.46GHz - It goes like a stabbed rat (and I used to think my FX 60 3.2GHz was quick - lol:D But some more speed won't be sneezed at!

I'm finding the same sort of bias about the P965-DS3 at the moment, I don't doubt that the P35 chipsets are *better* than the 965 for Quads but the 965 so far seems to be stable as long as you pump some volts through the cpu. Am at similar speeds to you now.

What volts are you pushing through the cpu in the bios? CpuZ always shows droop.

Cool.

So did all your kit arrive then mate?:D

Bet its killed you to wait eh?:)

**EDIT**

ON AIR!!! Nice one...

Tuniq Tower or freezer 7?

Yeah the last bits were waiting for me when I got home. I should really be in bed but I'm itching to play :p Arrgh!

Actually neither, its a Thermaltake BigTyp 120 VX

Got it because it just fits in me original Coolermaster ATC 201 which I think I may have got from here like.. er.. a long time ago :)

Was that 3.6GHz on a Striker mate?

Settings please?:D

The slaggings about 2.8GHz were referring to quad core chips and the Striker Extreme specifically by the way, not quad cores in general on all boards.:)

Yours built yet?:D
