New Build Troubleshooting - Red PSU Light & Yellow RAM Light - Help!

So could the red/yellow lights come on for a while and then a successful boot?

I never bother looking at them (when I do my builds, I can rarely see the innards while I'm testing), so I have no idea.

I was concerned if i left them on for long there could be some sort of permanent damage?

Nah, this is extremely unlikely. I suppose it is possible, for example: if the CPU wasn't seated properly in the socket, but I think you'd know about that before the motherboard has time to display any diagnostic LEDs.

Going forward i will boot first with the basics? and then add the fans, audio etc. Tried it there with the basics and no luck. Now trying to update the bios using a different USB to see if i have any luck.

Yeah, but you'd obviously need the CPU fan and the front panel to turn the board on.

There are some videos about MSI's flashback feature on YouTube, by the way.

Could try fat32 but as I mentioned before pull the motherboard out and try it on the box , you going to have to take it out anyway if you return it.

Keep us informed.

Good luck.
We are in business :) Another night of building on the cards but thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully I won’t be back on this thread later tonight!

always build outside the case first to test basic components, I once put one too many motherboard risers in, and it was shorting out the board on the underside, built it outside the case, hey presto, it worked, that was my lesson in always building outside the case first, just to know if it all works first, esp with a cpu that has an IGPU, nice and easy

Back again :o

After successfully managing to install windows and things going....fairly smoothly - I received prompts to update my graphics cards. I updated my Integrated AMD from device manager and also my GPU.

Restarted as prompted.

I then received the error ntoskrnl.exe 0xc0000428 and now my pc didn't boot. It showed this error upon start up - sometimes the error code changed to "winload" 0xc0000098. The VGA light on the motherboard was solid white at times. It didn't even allow me to load into safe mode from start up settings in an attempt to roll back the changes.

I've been having a few issues with updating my graphics card prior to this. I was receiving an error code when installing the 6750 xt driver software from the AMD site so i eventually gave up. I had to reinstall windows at this point as computer said no after the failed "update".

Any thoughts? I found this guide and attempted a repair with no success, so i ended up booting via my windows USB image and using a system restore point from earlier this morning. I'm now back in.

I do have a windows update file that won't install (once installed via updates it prompts a restart - but then the install fails upon restart and is available again via windows updates), but looking online it seemed to be a common issue and didn't seem to cause any issues but unsure if this is related. "Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64 based systems (KB5030219). Update: Obviously, as i type this the update decides to work for me.

I’ve not update not updated my BIOS as of yet to the most up to date version. Could either of these be triggering any of the issues I seem to be having with updating my graphics?

Do i need to update my graphics? I've set auto updates to "no". I don't really want to try updating them again in case the same thing happens.

What do you mean by "I received prompts"? Where did they come from? I'm aware that the AMD drivers have a prompt when you open the control panel, but you can just ignore this.

From device manager? I'm not sure that's a good idea to update the driver without the software.

Hmm, it might be a better idea to download it from the manufacturer's website.

It is possible, but B650 is hardly old, so compatibility issues with AMD's own graphics card are not likely, I'd have thought. You could check the BIOS update descriptions to see if any mention compatibility or update issues.

I have a system with a 6600 and it is still using the release driver, so no, you don't need to. If you're playing a game that doesn't work properly (glitches 'n such) then you would need to and you'll lose some performance from the driver optimisations.

Thanks Tetras.

I first noticed it when loading a game(s) in Steam - it will appear when I clicked to run Starfield, so i guess the fact it's a new release may have prompted it and older games will be quite happy. It loads and runs fine though. I then checked the device manager and it shows a yellow symbol over the Integrated and 6750 - it's not the exclamation mark....its like a yellow microchip - that's the best way i can describe it! A bit of googling suggested updating the drivers. However it's not doing any harm from what i can see.

That's where i have tried to download it from. It's the official MSI software - seems a bit strange!

Quite happy to leave things how they are if there is no problem - i don't want to prompt any further blue screens of death as the PC might end up out the window :D

Turns out it was my anti virus(of all things!?) that was causing the error with the MSI software. Now installed and CPU and GPU graphics now up to date and everything running smoothly. I can now relax. Once again, thank you all for taking the time to respond and help out. You have no idea how much it is appreciated :)
