Hi all

I purchased this bit of kit after having a spec request here,
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

The motherboard was RMA'd after a reboot cycle problem (great service from Overclockers but an unexpected postge bill for me ) anyway the new board works well but..

When I use the gigabyte Overclock utility "Easytune 6" to number 2 on quickboost mode @ 3.8ghz one of my favuorite games crashes "Settlers 7", I use a Asus gtx 470 and I installed an arctic cooling freezer pro rev2 cooler so I would have thought it would be OK on this setting, runs great in normal use, just this game the gfx go glitchy & boxy then it freezes & crashes. If I go down to nmber 1 on the quickboost @ 3.6ghz all is well.
I have some core temps, at idle all in the low 30s & at full load all low 80s.
this rig uses an XFX 850 pro modular & sits in an Antec mini P180 case.

Any ideas why the game freezes & crashes, do I need a better cooler to overclock?

cheers

Will

I would rule out EasyTune as the problem.

Disable/uninstall EasyTune - or turn it off etc..

Then for a quick comparison go into the BIOS and disable 'spread spectrum' and up the multiplier to 40 (or 38 your choice).

Leave everything else on auto - save and exit.

Run the game and see if it crashes.

I've got 5 minutes so i'll download your manual - and have a look.

If anybody else has a Giagbyte Z68 please take over...

OK, ignore spread spectrum as it's a very minor clock your after - i can't see that having any impact.

Go to 'Advanced Frequency Settings' and set the 'CPU Clock Ratio' to 38 (to match your previpus setting in EasyTune).

As this is such a minor clock we'll leave verything else on auto - so save and exit (usually F10).

EDIT: While you're in there check your memory settings - if you're not sure how run CPUz and look at the memory tab to make sure that it's running to spec.

Hi
I have done as you said and I checked the memory settings, it says 1333 and next to it 1600 so I presume this is ok?
anyway thanks for your help Plec. It's much appreciated.
I will give the game a go now & will post later to let you know

cheers
