Just built the following and getting the "verifying dmi pool data" hang.

Can't install Win7 or do anything....

System is;

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Intel Core i7 950
OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot 120GB 3.5" SATA-II
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Low Latency Triple Channel (PVT36G1600LLK)
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Anyone experienced anything like this before?

if i remember correctly this is past the bios screen etc and just before the windows logo?

i had this problem just after i installed windows.....i had to reformat drive and reinstall windows.....

you should be able to reinstall windows.....make sure you have boot from cd as one of your first boot devices in bios

Few things to check that cause the PC to hang on this message (with no o/s installed) ...

- Settings for HDD not correct.
- Boot devices not set properly.
- BIOS corrupt or not set properly.
- Connections loose or not seated properly.

I would start by checking the connections if it's a brand new machine. Chances are one of the cables may have came loose when it was in transit. Perhaps even reset the CMOS as well. Hope this helps.

I would say it's a bad connection as this can often happen when the machine is in transit. You can get any number of issues from a poorly seated connector (even though device is seen within BIOS). Easy enough to try a CMOS reset as well.

Changed bios to boot from cd/dvd first

Now get;

verifying dmi pool data .............
Boot from cd/dvd :
-

pressing any keyboard key has no effect.

My gigabyte UD5 does that when it can't find a bootloader on one of the hard drives. So I'm with philtorrens here. It's odd that it wont boot from the CD though.

One thing to try is change to IDE in the bios, if currently set to AHCI, as windows seems to prefer the former.
