Hey all,

Ive come up with this new build and I'm almost ready to order, I'm just a bit unsure about a couple of things... hope you can help!

Ill be using the PC for gaming mostly, but also some graphic design.

First thing is the 550w power supply..... will this be powerful enough??

The RAM.... I really don't know much about RAM.. is this RAM any good, can you recommend any better??

Lastly (i bet you all get tired of this question :p) i5 or i7.... at this price range, would it be better to go for a i7 build???

Thank you!:D

Oh... just noticed... and so is that dam case...

well what about one of these :

Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit

G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit

both at 85quid ..

550W is probably enough, but the 650 is another 8 quid, and your not really going to miss 8 quid so go for that :)

Also the 650 will enable you to add a second 5770 if you want to at a later date etc

The F3s have 500gb platters so in the 500gb drive only one plater compared to two in the WD therefore the samsung would be faster

If you intend to do use any 3D rendering software then I would advise you to stay away from ATI. As ATI have always had issues and problems with software such as 3DS Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Blender and other 3D software which uses Open GL. Nvidia drivers are much more stable and solid. Nvidia worked hard in providing a stable Open GL system for game development companies and hence why you often see the Nvidia animated logo at the intro stages of games.

If you intend to do work in the 3D realm then I woud advise you to stick to Nvidia.

Id get the 4890. The 550w PSU will be fine, and will likely be enough for any future GPU upgrade you do, providing its not multiple cards of course. It is generally better to stick to a single card solution, and upgrade it when you need to rather than buying the same, outdated card again to gain minimal peformace increase.

Id recommend an antec 300 case over the one you have. Very well built and offers some of the best cooling.

Id also get a different cooler. You would be far better off saving and getting a good cooler first time round.

Id recommend this:

or this, if the above is too much:

The HDD you have is good, although so are the samsungs, so your choice.

Thats about it i think, goodluck.

WD caviar black are optimised with twin integrated processors, and are optimised for random accesses, rather than concurrent accesses. This makes them kind of good for system drives, but you'd have to read some benchmarks to check that.

WD Caviar Black 1TB drive beats the 1TB F3 in almost all tests as far as i remember from a benchmark i read the other day.

If you was going to be doing 3D work, then you wouldnt be buying a consumer class / gaming graphics card anyway, youd buy a business/enterprise class card, i.e nVidia Quadro, or ATI Fire..

Id just go for the 4890. Games utilising DX11 to anything worth while will probably be some way off.. after all look at how many titles utilise DX10 over DX9 to much extent

agreed , i dont know why people plug the 57xx so much when even a 4870 would perform considerably better and the 4890 even more so, save the 110 quid or w/e u spend on the 5770 and get a better card in 2 years time. I'm also gona say that tuniq towers are amazing air coolers.
