As topic title really, I've got some new parts on the way for building this weekend, and wondering what OS to go for.

Until now I've always been in the mind of, if it aint broke don't fix it, so kept W7 all the way through W8 launch.

Now it's a new build though I have an excuse to reinstall, because simply I have no choice. Would I be mad to stick with W7 or are there genuine performance perks in using W8?

There are two main factors to consider here

1- New hardware is more focused on Windows 8 (UEFI and Fast Boot etc)

2- Did I mention Fast Boot? Windows 8 boots fast!

Other than that not a thing wrong with Windows 7. :) Still using it for my main gaming rig

EDIT: I'm sure there are other factors. If you like the W7 Start Menu, for example. Also, the touch-oriented style of W8 annoys many a folk.

Unless you've got a copy of Windows 8 already I'd just stick with 7. 8 feels bit snappier and does boot a little quicker but in terms of performance it wouldn't be enough for me to justify buying a new copy/licence.

I don't have a copy, no point buying one if I wasn't gonna use it :P

2/2 seem to be leaning towards W7 so I think I'll go with that. Not really a fan of trying to find programs/apps that are W8 compatible too. I recall having that problem when swapping from XP to W7.

A few small performance tweaks for going with Windows 8, but if you don't have a license for Win8 or like the Start Menu, stick with 7. (Latter reason can be fixed with Classic Shell, Startisback or Start8).
