New Build with Carry Overs

Wondering if an alternative solution might be to get a:

Intel Core2 Quad Processor 6M Cache 2.50 GHz 1333 MHz FSB Q9300 SLAWE LGA775

off an auction site and bump my current DDR2 up to 8GB, see how that fairs with a potential GPU upgrade to the new ATI cards in June/July . . .

what would you all do? I dont want to spend £500 if I can avoid it...so if thats a solution that will make Witcher 3 playable on at least medium then I would be happy
 
I'm thinking that is a quad core, high end Socket 775 cpu ? Looked at a list of Socket 775's, or is there a more beefy CPU I should be going for?

edit:

Seems a Core 2 Quad Q9550 is a cheap good overclocker might be worth getting one and just trying it out with 8GB ram upgrade.

Total cost would be about £80
