Hello OCUK

Im looking to build a pc, well, its almost a new pc, its more upgrades.

Basically the system im on at the moment is:

AMD 4000+
Geforce 6600 gt
3 GB ram (DDR)
200GB Sata WD (i think).
Terratec DMX6fire (w/front panel)
Happauge Wintv (pci Effort)
Usb2 card (Pci slot)
800w PSU
22" mon

But, Im looking at spending about £300ish on new components

I think im still gonna go down the AMD route, and was looking at buying

Asus AM2+ Nforce 630a ATX AL - Mobo
Asus GTX260 896MB DDR3 cc s756 - GFX
AMD 6000 64 - CPU
Corsair DDR2 4GB kit, 800mhz - Ram

Am i making the right decisions?

A few more questions!

  1. Will the new mobo be compat with the Old SATA drive?
  2. Will i have enough power to run everything as it should???

phew Post over. If anyone has any other suggestions. Plz let me know!

I wouldn't buy that CPU and motherboard tbh...
Your existing hard-drive will be fine though and the power supply should be more than adequate. Who is the PSU made by?

If you really want to go the AMD route, which isn't too bad, I'd go for a 7750 and an Asus M3A78.

Comparison of the cpu's

As you can see the intel based system beats the 7750+ at STOCK speeds nevermind the 6000+. Wait till you pump that up to 3.8 - 4ghz :)

edit, apparently that site is seen as competition, you'll have to google e5200 v athlon 6000+

cheers guys for the response, hehe, I've googled. not a bad read!.

just one thing though, the 4850, why should i go ATI? i mean is there any reason for doing so, other than just preference? im not a total nub but to me the ATI>Nvidia thing seems daft!

edit Also, just one more thing, I dabble in 3d modelling, So was wondering if the Difference in GFX-ram would be noticeable?

ermm, well mainly cause in that budget i couldn't squeeze a 260, 280, 285, 295, 4850x2, 4870, 4870x2. A mix of nvidea and ati but all the cards better than that one.

After that lot it is generally considered that the 4850 is the best buy.

Cos it's the most rox0r card that's come out for a while. Excellent performance even at 1920x1200.

Not much of an update but

My Psu isn't 800w, its 400... lol. Is this gonna make any difference to operation? or infact Oc'ing (if i get round to it)
