New build with some salvaged parts - doesn't seem to be booting

No luck with the power thing. Going to install Windows and flash bios this afternoon. Reckon it's worth flashing the GPU BIOS too if it's still dead or is this more likely to be a monitor thing?
I honestly don't know - it's such a bizarre problem.

The motherboard BIOS flash is definitely a worthy step as it may improve PCIE compatibility along with the memory - but still doesn't explain why it would work with a TV and not a monitor.

I too would consider flashing the GPU BIOS - makes sense - but again still confused with why this would stop it working with a monitor which worked quite happily within another PC before?

Actually, is the monitor a new addition too?

Yeah the monitor was bought at the same time as the other parts. Weirdest thing to me is how it DOES work with the monitor, but only if it's plugged in to the TV when I first turn it on. Can't wrap my head around that at all.

Erm... I think I've fixed it...

There's a setting on the monitor called "Game Mode". I turned game mode on, it still didn't work. I turned game mode off again, and now it's working...

Your perseverance paid off.

Glad you resolved it - cancelling card?

I'm completely bewildered as to how that fixed the problem but at this point I'm ready to just accept it and not ask questions.

Yeah going to hold off on card for a while. Thanks a lot for the help.

No worries.

I've learnt to accept these odd little gifts/fixes as they present themselves. I used to search as to why - now I accept it as an odd anomaly and remain happy in my ignorance.

Sounds like a setting in the monitor wasn't probably switching over until you forced the issue - either way - kudos.

Could well be. I can move the HDMI between Macbook and PC freely now and it works perfectly. Can also turn game mode on and off on both machines and it still works. Super weird.
