For a hobbie I love so much, it can be a right pain in the ass at times!
Excitedly I started to transition over from my Corsair 650D to my new Bitfenix Prodigy yesterday where I purchased an Asrock Z77e-ITX as my new mobo choice due to the wonderful amount of features it has.
After spending a good 2 hours moving over all my components and carefully cabling the case to hide as much cable as possible, I hooked up my power and peripherals to install windows.
I press the power button, the fans spin and................ nothing, no image on the screen, the fans spin for 3-5 seconds and the PC reboots and repeats this until I turn it off. I disconnect every component such as GFX card, HDD's and DVD/R and try agian, same thing..... Off to the RAM I go. I take of the RAM in slot B, turn the PC on and yay it I see the Asrock Bios image. I now stick the 2nd RAM stick back in and failure, same problem as before. I check if its the 2nd stick thats faulty by putting it in Slot A and PC boots fine, so RAM seems ok, Slot B is obviously faulty. I try RAM from my other computer and confirm slot B is definitely dead.
Rather than stop here I thought, well I have a few hours before I go to bed, I'll install Windows on one stick of RAM and contact OCUK tomorrow to RMA the board so when a new one arrives I can just stick it in and be on my merry way. Unfortunately there was more problems with the board.
Once starting the Windows installation, the computer would just randomly restart, this happened 3 times before I thought maybe there is a short circuit. Took the board out of the case and tried again, same thing.
By now it was 1am and I gave up trying to get it to work, while I was going through this process I was googling the problems I was experiencing and was slightly comforted other people have had the same issues and had to RMA their boards. Due to going to the iseries this Friday I just ordered a new Gigabyte ITX board last night and have requested an RMA from OCUK to return the Asrock board.
