Hi guys, the following won't boot:

3200 (754)
Epox 8HDA3+
1gb pc3200 OCZ
6800GT
400W Antec, which came already inside an Antec SLK3800B

Basically, if we turn it all on, you see the case fans twitch and turn about 2cm, but nothing else. Everything else completely fails. Anyone had any similar experiences or know what it could be? Thanks.

Either a short on the case (motherboard is touching the case) or something wrong with for example the PSU, or you have not plugged in all the wires (this is especially true of the 4 wire cable that also is in need of being plugged in to the motherboard).

Be sure all ram and graphics card is in FIRMLY,

Also a trick which works on occasion, hold the power button on the front of the PC in, then turn the PSU you on at the back... this sometimes works on cold boot problems.

talk us through the build, how you did it, whats places where, what wires are remaining unplugged what switched are on what lights you can see etc... get a better result from us.

OK, fan still twitching slightly after repeated attempts.

This Epox board doesn't have a mobo LED, it has one of those numbered display things. And this doesn't flash at all. Nothing else responds in the slightest, except for the case fan twitching.

I've checked the mobo power leads (both 20 and 4 pin), gfx & RAM are seated properly, heatsink fan controller is connected up properly. All my 4 pin PSU power cables are connected to something - hd, dvdrw, gfx, case fan.

Are you sure that it isnt shorting against the case.

Try taking out a stick of ram, trying it, then putting that stick back in, and taking the other out.

Try removing the Video card and see if anything happens.

Lastly try the other suggestion I made in my other post for cold start problems./

Also, noticed that the 20-pin PSU power connector has one of the pins missing! But it's not just the actual pin, if you look on the other side of it the entire cable for that one pin is missing. So there are only 19 out of 20 there. Could this be causing it? Anything I can do other than RMA the whole Antec SLK3800B? Last time I had to send something back to OCUK my postage wasn't refunded.

I don't think it's shorting. I've used all the brass fittings and it's sat nicely on them. And I can't see any contact anywhere else.

I have my other computer here, but I'm posting on it!

Here's what I mean about the connector:

2 of them are going into one hole, and one hole is empty. That's surely a manufacturing error?
im sure mine was like that, did you screw the mobo to the chassis or did you put the motherboard pillar in the case and sit the mobo on top?

If that's standard then I've never noticed it before.

10 brass fittings, sat mobo on top, screwed through mobo using supplied screws into brass fittings.

may sound daft, you have probably checked this? but is the power cable working?

That's the board and cpu you got from me Spuderooney, like the others say I'd suspect a short somewhere, I only had it fitted with nine standoffs too, not 10.

Can anyone help out here?

Situation is I sold the board and CPU to Spuderooney. The board and CPU were definitely good, they were part of the rig I used every day before going to C2D. I was actually going to sell it to my mate before he decided to go C2D as well and bough an off the shelf package.

Obviously in the interests of good will I don't want Spuderooney with a non working board but at the same time don't want to make a refund if there's something else which may have killed it.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Edit: it's been tried out of the case now, on and off the AS bag.

I've tested with single sticks of RAM, different slots, re-seated GFX numerous times, etc.

As said, after turning the power on, you get the v. low hum of the PSU, and then when you switch it on proper, you get this very quiet, single beep. Barely audible when stood over it, but a bit clearer when you put your head closer.

I don't particularly want to go through the rigmarole of sending this back/refunds etc., so if anyone's had any similar experiences please help :(
