Hi all

I built a new PC today and I'm having a problem getting it to detect my old NEC 3520A DVD drive. I just don't know what I am doing wrong. It powers the drive up fine and spins my Vista disc but that is it.

I then get a message saying select the correct drive and insert media and reboot.

I've looked all over the bios but I can't find anything but to be honest I have no idea what i'm doing. This is my first build.

This is my spec:

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775)
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon EVO ONE DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler
Corsair 520W PSU

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

You probably need to enable the IDE controller. Most modern boards have a seperate SATA and an IDE controller. I.e. Intel for SATA and Marvell for IDE.

Poke around and you'll find it :)

Problem solved! It was a brokencable causing it. I changed it for another and now it picks up the DVD drive.

Thanks all :)
