new build wont display

hey just put together my first build and when i went to boot it, all lights came on coldcathods worked but it wouldn't display anything on my monitor. i have disconnected all the things not needed and still wont work.

also
when i hold the power button to turn off the fans spin quicker then it turns off.

asus m3a79t deluxe
4gb patriot ram
ati 5770
hx 750w psu

All connections good, CPU power (4pin)?

Did you use the standoffs when putting the mobo in.

Puctures help a lot.

no, 8 pin cpu power yes i used standoffs.

What display cable you using? My gfx card was dvi by default and wouldn't display vga so I had to get an adapter for my vga monitor to get into it!

i am using a VGA cable and my gpu has 2 DVI ports, 1 HDMI and 1 display port. ive put a DVI - VGA adaper on the end.
