new build wont power up

guys i bought a 4 gzh o/c machine from ocuk i put it together, it tries to power up and then switches off. think my psu is too weak now.

i7 950
6gb ddr3
4x sata hd's
bluray and dvd drives
4870x2
corsair 620w psu
audigy gamer

any ideas guys before i replace the psu, aint got a lower powered video card to test it.
 
did u install this in the case iteslf?

if so just do a quick check of all the connections and make sure you havent got a short circuit some where......sure this should boot to at least post....

if after you have checked every thing and everything seems fine, try running outside of case.......

after this it looks like power supply.....
 
Make sure you are not shorting the motherboard. Reset the CMOS, effectively removing your overclock and putting your system in a default state. Try to power on again.

If it is still struggling, disconnect all optical drives aside from the Blu-ray - pointless waste of power having them all hooked up. Power on.

If you still have problems, in addition to the above, disconnect some of the hard drives, leave only one stick of ram in and remove the soundcard. You should be able to power on then until you get a stronger PSU.
 
1. Remove all hard drives and optical drives, run graphics card and memory only.
2. Go over all connectors, detach them then look at the actual connector, making sure the pins are not bent or any debris there. Ideally do this with the motherboard manual open so you can cross reference. Just making sure everything is where it should be.
3. Inspect for debris or dust on the board.
4. Make sure the motherboard standoffs are screwed into the case tightly and the motherboard too is attached suecurly, looking for a short circuit somewhere.
5. Try booting with only a single memory module installed and repeat again if it fails with the other modules. Check which memory slots should be occupied. IF it has more than three slots ensure slots 1, 3 and 5 are occupited. (check in motherboard manual to confirm)
6. Just check the cpu is seated properly on the motherboard, nice and firmly etc.

PS. State the full spec of the components. PSU should be more than enough to power up to post.

Edit; don't reset the CMOS yet as you will lose your overclocked bios settings (presuming you can get into the BIOS)
 
He does not state the board, but if it is an ASUS make, he can easily access his OC profile and load it back up. Furthermore, OCUK will happily provide him with all of the settings over the phone if he had to reset the board for stability reasons.
 
Talk to Overclockers. Theres a issue here and it would best to get advice from them first. Im sure they would be more than happy to help.
 
its the asus, im gonna take it from the case i think. iv looked around everything is disconnected for sure. the fan on the gfx card trys to start then stops
 
sounds like the power supply has given up, as you should at least be able to get into bios with a working powersupply........was this power supply ok before you built this new system?

if you dont have a power supply you could try, i would have a chat with over clockers about resetting cmos......
 
just looked, and googled atx power supply pinout and if it -5v, then it looks like atx 2.0 doesnt use -5v so that would be why the tester isnt lighting up -5

and so the power supply seems ok with no load.......does the tester start the fan on the psu? could still be faulty under load though
