New Build

The more I search the more I read bad things about vista and games so i'm swaying back to XP, I can always upgrade to vista in a years time when they get all the drivers sorted and the games being realesed will be designed with it in mind!

Stick to Xp until the drivers get a bit better then mate :D

650 chipset with a few more features. Very good overclocker.

Neither has onboard graphics, but something akin to a 7300 card can be picked up for about £30. Example - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-086-SP&groupid=595&catid=597&subcat=637

I don't mean to hijack your thread Nitemare!

Masslac, Iam going to attempt my first build soon using a e6600 I was originally thinking about getting a mobo with onboard gfx and then saving some money up and getting a top end gfx card at a later date.

But know I thinking your idea is better just get a cheap gfx card for the time being. At the moment its between the DS3 or Asus P5N-E.

Appreciate any input :)

Hmm. Asus by a nose. Both are superb boards.

As for the card, look at either a 7600GT or 1950 PRO. You'll be able to sell either for a decent price when it's time to upgrade.

sorry i dont know much about gfx cards yet I had'nt really started to research them just yet. :o To be honest I was thinking off spending abit less on a temporary gfx, but I could probably stretch to that price if needed. Will all off those cards run vista ultimate with aero etc?

Hi Guys

As i mentioned I picked up the Connect3d X1950XT a few weeks back so hopefully when I get a system to put it in this will keep me going for a while and I can upgrade to a DX10 card later

Also with regards to my Vista or XP dilema I posted a question in the software forum but maybe you can comment: -

What about a dual boot system?

For sake of an extra £70 i could go for a larger HD and a copy of XP home edition?

Is is posible to install an OEM copy of Vista 64bit (OEM) and XP Home (OEM) in dual boot mode on a new build?

Has anyone done this?
Any downside apart from the extra cost?

There's just no point in spending money on XP now that Vista is on the market.

I dont already have the XP disk (apart from the disk that came with my old Evesham system 4 years ago!) so would have to pay the extra £50 for this ontop of a copy of Vista

I would go for Vista if it was me.

Any news on when a service will be out for it?

Okay I have been doing some more reading and have found enough favourable comments to say that some of the games that I want to play are working for some people at least! therefore I have decided to bite the bullet and go Vista 64bit :)

Now thats sorted I have another dilema: -

The Seagate Baracuda 500G drive is on offer of the week at £88.11 The 320G I had selected is £61.09 so that only another £27 for extra 180G

Or would I be better off again spending even moreand getting 2x250 or 2x320!

decisions decisions!!!
