Hey all,

Building a new comp for my brother and tbh, whilst im pretty sure im on the right lines with what i plan to buy him, any pit falls or advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

He trying to giving me £80 every 3-4 weeks and given he is 14 this aint a bad achievement for him but obviously wants it as soon as possible so im trying to balance something close to 'future proof' without telling him it will be ready by xmas 2011.

so far, got the case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-020-NX&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=35

got the PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-023-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098

next on the list is this bundle: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-042-OE&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=

The idea is to really leave things like gfx card till last in hope the price falls down by the time he has saved for it.

I've got a couple of spare DVD and CD Rom drives to throw in, but what HDD would suit this kinda build, again without forking out too much and delaying the build in general?

Any other advice?

Cheers guys

It's a shame your not in the Members market as you could build a nice machine from spares. For your HDD I would look at a Western Digital or Samsung F3. I prefer Western Digital but the Samsung F3 are fast :)

Sorry cant, already bought the case and PSU xD

Would the bundle not work out cheaper? not to mention the already-done overclock?

if your a novice/worried about overclocking then buy a bundle with the work done.

and as the second post, buy a black or F3(not ecogreen)

ok, if we took the parts itself, for no more than £400 what could be bought that would be better than the bundle?

From reading a few other 'case' topics, not too sure if i can take your post as sarcasm lol. Personally when my brother suggested it, i thought it was ugly but tbh, its not that bad looking once you have it in front of you.

In terms of space etc, seems to be pretty good.

Have you chosen the display? I would suggest that you buy a display first, one that you think that will suite your brother well and after that pick the GFX according to the display's resolution so you can play games in good details on the native resolution of the display.

i figured that if i left the gfx to near last, the prices of the ones good atm wont be just as much. Aiming for the 5770 unless next one up comes down.

In terms of monitor, not too sure. i have the Syncmaster 2243nw which cost just over £100 and the 19" i planned to get him would be a far bit less. Not sure, depends if he wants to wait longer or not i guess.

Sorry for digging this one back up.

Now have the above mentioned motherboard and G-Skill 4GB DDR3 (2x 2GB) PC3 17600 - 2200Mhz and the Titan TTC-NK85TZ/V2 Fenrir CPU Cooler.

It was mentioned to get the i5 processor but tbh, with this sort of kit, wouldnt mind going for a reasonable i7 instead.

Could anyone suggest a good one that goes well with this stuff already bought?

Want to try and keep it sub £200. Cheers guys

ok, budget aside, the Intel Core i7 860 2.8GHz any good in terms of keeping a reasonable balance to the rig?
