Your expertise needed as i can't decide on a new build for my Sapphire 5970 OC graphics card. Basically, the computer downstairs is coming up to 7 years old, so you can imagine it's pretty much running but at the same time it's a complete joke if you're used to the current technology, so my computer is being moved to my brothers room, and his computer is going to be where the 7 year old computer is for my parents usage.

At first, the 5970 was a purchased mistake because it didnt fit in my Antec 902 case, but i had a thought to build a computer from scratch which i've never done before, but i have modified certain areas like optical drives, hdd's, gpu's and fans mainly but i thought this would be fun and a good opportunity for some experience.

My budget is £2000, but doesn't have to hit £2000 either and i will be overclocking and i have the 5970 for this build.

I need the following items:
-Processor.
-Motherboard.
-Memory.
-Hard Drive.
-Optical Drive.
-Case [although i'm kinda set on the Corsair 800D].
-Air/Water coolers [although i'm kinda set on the Corsair H50].
-Power Supply.
-Operating system [although i'm kinda set on Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit].
-Monitor [preferably a good looking one, nothing dull].

I think that's it, thanks in advance.

If you want to blow the extra cash you could get a bigger/better monitor than the one Fallen God suggested then, otherwise his suggestion looks great.

not to shabby i think :D

Edit** mops i was ment to pic that OCZ memory that Fallen has picked

5970 Doesn't come in a 1GB version, and crossfiring them is kind of overkill...

I agree and Crysis is meh, i've learnt that mistake of comparing hardware with a poorly coded game, but the 5970 can play Crysis smoothly anyway.

You are right...I thought there was a 1GB version when 5970 was first released...checked the Custom PC magazine's review that was indeed a 2GB card.

Overkill it may be, but there are plenty of people who don't mind blowing their cash going down that path though :p

Putting gameplay aside, I don't think Crysis was poorly coded...it was more like the graphic was just that demanding, and the cards are not keeping up with it that's all.

EDIT: Ouppps i 4got the HDD and OS My bad :(
Change the Case to the Corsair if you want as its like £130 cheaper but the corsair is not so good for air cooling....
Also change the memory to the OCZ one mentioned above to save another £120?

But my build includes dual screen, sound card and speakers.
Maybe get a smaller SSD but then you cant save games :(

Okay, thanks for the listed specs but i've made my mind up and i'm going with the following setup and before you say i haven't met my £2000 budget, i have because i decided to have the 5970 be a part of it despite i bought it earlier, so i added the price to the system and no monitor was needed either in the end.

-Intel Core i7 960 3.2GHz.
-Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard.
-Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel.
-Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case.
-Antec CP 1000W Modular Power Supply.
-Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache.
-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit.
-Titan TTC-NK85TZ/V2 Fenrir CPU Cooler.
-Corsair Airflow Triple-Channel Fan.
-LG GH24NS50 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black).
-Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g).
-Sapphire 5970 OC Edition.

i7-960 - complete waste of money! Get the 920, its an absolute bargain and will overclock like a boss.

With the money you save get the intel 80Gb ssd would make a great boot drive.

Yup, but i like to have 3GHz at default and i'm honestly not interested in SSD's.

Well, guess nothing we say is gonna convince you otherwise if you are dead-set on giving Intel extra money.

You convinced me to actually change my mind. I decided it is much more smarter to get the i7 920 and overclock it to 4GHz but i'm still not getting an SSD because the price of one doesn't justify it to only be used as a boot drive when HDD's are sufficient from my point of view, i also decided to throw a 27" LG monitor in the mix too.
