Hello all
Im putting together a new i7 build and i have a couple of choices and questions if i may

First choice is mobo

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X5 or Gigabyte GA-X58A

Not sure which one to go for:confused:

Now memory either 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Memory XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 9-9-9-24
Or
OCZ Gold Low Voltage 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C10 2000MHz CL 10-10-10-20

Which is best as i have no idea on memory really both look about the same to me.

Also on my system now i have Asetek watercooling LGA775 CPU which i would like to transfer over to my new build but will it fit?

Really appreciate all the tech heads here helping me out

So thank you in advance

Luke

hello,
first on the motherboard front the two boards you choice are almost similar so really its up to you if you would like asus or gigabyte i would recommend asus myself being an owner of one of their boards but it is up to you. for memory i would go with the xms 6gb because it will be better at overclocking and the sticks are very reliable. all i can really say about the watercooling is if the motherboard is socket 775 and so is the waterblock then the should fit fine!

edit
im not too sure on the watercooling bit now because i7 are socket 1136 and the block you have is socket 775 maybe ask in the watercooling section of the fourns if you can bodge it or something ;)

I have had both those boards and went for the Gigabyte and I really enjoy the SATA3 and USB3 that came with it.

The water cooling option you have selected will not fit due to the different hole sizes. The Corsair H70 will if you wish to go that route. I stuck with a good air cooler and used the Prolimatech Megahalems, it has enough clearance so I could use any ram that I chose.

Now as to the ram you have mentioned you will be well served with either, I like the special that is on right now with the Gskill, but I have been a fan of Gskill for a while so could be biased. :)

OK thanks for the reply's guys

I think this is what im going to go for

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X5
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Memory XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 9-9-9-24
Corsair H50-1 Hydro Series High-performance CPU Watercooler
ATI HD 5850 already got
Coolmasters 700w already got

Hopefully overclock this to around 4ghz mark anyone see any problems as it's a lot of money to spend

Thanks

I think that the megahalems is a very good choice from reviews and debates I've read and it is something I am going to purchase over the H50-1 or H70 myself.

im going for a top top air cooler. the Prolimatech Megahalems was on the hitlist but,
ive came on today and theres a new Prolimatech beast that is the same size as the megahalems but can hold a bigger fan (140mm) and has cool looking copper fins.

Prolimatech SUPER MEGA :)

ive started a thread to see if it would clear Patriot Viper ram with a 140mm on it,
Asus P6X58D-E being the board also

so you guys might b interested.

:)

Addition: just looking at the birds eye view of the Super Mega, it looks like a transformer autobot logo lol

I will try to dig out some of the camparisons I've read.

sorry to hijack the thread.
Thanks Jakesnake I will look into that too as I have dominators with high clearance required
